arthur poirier 0 #1 Posted Sunday at 11:19 PM Had this K161 1963 totally apart bored ect, now the timing marks on the crank and cam are supposed to line up right? when everything back together I brought the piston up on the compression stroke both valve closed and the points open and sparks. When it running I can`t get and throttle out of her I don`t get it
953 nut 57,755 #2 Posted Sunday at 11:54 PM (edited) Check the points gap, it also sets your ignition timing. You can have a strong spark at the wrong time. This Service Manual should be helpful. Edited Monday at 11:00 AM by 953 nut

Loosen the governor arm, hold it so that the throttle is wide open, turn the governor shaft as far counter clock wise as it will go,(clipping small Vise Grip on the shaft and letting it hang in about the 9 o'clock position helps hold the shaft where it needs to be) and tighten the bolt on the arm with everything held in this position. 1
WHX?? 50,620 #4 Posted Monday at 12:46 PM Just for grins try swapping out the condenser. 2
wallfish 17,462 #5 Posted Monday at 06:50 PM A bad condenser will fire an engine and allow it to run at idle but won't allow fire at any higher RPM. That's if everything else is on par as well. I've also had bad gas do that same thing. Not more than a couple of days old from the pump and it was frustrating to figure it out as that wasn't something near the top of the list. 1

If the condenser is suspected you can disconnect the lead from the condenser to coil for testing. It is there to protect the points but if the engine runs better without it then you will know it is bad. Edited Monday at 11:12 PM by 953 nut
arthur poirier 0 #7 Posted Tuesday at 01:54 AM thank you to all, it has no govenor, it stopped working long time ago, the reson for the rebuild was because the compression was around 30psi, and now she around 90psi. before the tear down gas was filling up in the crank case, so I figured cause of the low compression, So now I thought I had the timing off by a tooth, never thought of the condensor being bad. I put new carb, coil, points, condensor, piston,c/rod bearings, rings. So I will check the condensor, thanks again
