All-

My 418-8 has that “loose” steering wheel shaft cover. Anyone have a fix for it? I am not sure how it was properly attached from the factory…

It just slides on. I used a 1 1/2" ABS pipe cut the angle, wasn't quite right sanded it on the belt sander until it fit the dash angle.  Used two 6203 3/4" bearings the sanding bur stopped the bottom bearing. Cut about 1/2" of the pipe and cut 1" piece off the circle forced it inside the pipe and pushed it down to hold the top bearing. Sanded the steering shaft clean coated it with antisease and installed the bearings.SAM-1933.jpg

The 5 ft. of 1 1/2" ABS was less the 6 bucks at Lowes and the bearing was good used ones I had.

While you have it apart If you are going to keep it, "I use a 6472 flange bearing like on the lower steering shaft.

I have done that too on other machines and makes a world of difference.

All-

I need to clarify something. I have one in good shape on my machine. Problem is that it is not attached to the dash and is just loose. How did it attach from the factory to the dash?

Mine was free-floating. No physical attachment. Only the angled cut keeping it from revolving.

Must be something holding in place? Maybe some adhesive?

They are just along for the ride, nothing holds it in place besides the steering shaft.
