FLtractor 23 #1 Posted April 10 (edited) Afternoon, Having awful time getting the engine oil threaded buttcapp off my 1966 856. 8hp Kohler. Anyone happen to know if this would reach inside the engine oil dipstick hole far enough to syphon out enough oil to just refill it back thru the dipstick hole? Has lots of great reviews and very affordable method. Also considering this syringe style pump although much smaller tube. If these won’t work, does someone has a syphon pump or method they’d recommend? Edited April 10 by FLtractor
adsm08 2,602 #2 Posted April 10 What kind of issues are you having? I have to remove the rod from the pedal so it can move freely, then use a pair of pliers on mine.

Used channel locks.. vice grips.. curved pipe vice grips… wrench… attempted to JB weld a socket and use a breaker bar.. socket didn’t hold and didn’t even stick.. used file and sandpaper to rough up the round parts to get a better hold. Removed clutch pin to make room.. cotter pin from front of frame too for other direction room... just nothing I’ve done has moved the cap at all.. at this point think it would be easier to syphon out the oil if possible. Any recommendations on my idea? Edited Thursday at 11:20 PM by FLtractor
SylvanLakeWH 27,380 #4 Posted Thursday at 11:26 PM Small Pipe wrench... it'll bite. If not enough space, how about a basin wrench - put on an extension for a ratchet and go...

adsm08 2,602 #6 Posted Thursday at 11:57 PM JB Weld is good for two things, and nothing else. 1) repairing plastic 2) throwing in the trash. It is not good for attaching two pieces of metal together. In fact it is rather bad at that.
gt14rider 832 #7 Posted Friday at 12:12 AM Try this , I know your cap is round but clamp vice grip as tight as you can , use screwdriver or pry bar , tap with hammer, just need to move it a little, it'll spin off

953 nut 57,740 #10 Posted Friday at 12:08 PM My guess is the clamping force of a pair of vice grips used by a previous owner may have made that previously ROUND pipe into an oval shape along with the cap that is now permanently attached. You may need to replace the pipe and cap as a unit. 3
peter lena 9,074 #11 Posted Friday at 12:19 PM @Ed Kennell agree on the ridgid pipe wrench , like a small one and a 1" pipe assist , leverage is what you want , using vise grips on its weakest setting , side twist , is frustrating , worked with a pipefitter for years , always had the right set up , for strength leverage . pete

stevasaurus 23,045 #13 Posted Friday at 07:57 PM Syphoning is not going to fix your problem...you still have to fix this so you can use the drain. At this point, I would drill a hole in the cap big enough to let the oil run out. Let it drain and then cut the side of the cap with a 2" grinder, hack saw or something to get that cap off. Decide if you can live with the exention pipe, replace it if not. Re-build the drain using Racin'Bob's valve on a new pipe. There comes a time when you just get it done and go on to the next issue. Like...cut off the extention pipe and use an easy-out to turn out the pipe piece that's left. KISS...Keep it simple Stevasaurus !!! 2
