978GT14 2 #1 Posted April 8 I was rototilling and broke the output shaft on my sundstrand pump. Can anybody help me get my horsey back on track? Can the shaft be replaced? Or does anybody have one? I don't want to have to put my horse down. Please advise.
Pullstart 64,412 #2 Posted April 8 (edited) those shafts were flame hardened, or surface hardened. At one point, Wheel Horse started suggesting that any repairs be made using standard 3/4” solid drill rod. The pump needs to be disassembled for replacement, but a machine shop could likely make you a replacement. Edited April 8 by Pullstart
953 nut 57,708 #3 Posted April 8 @daveoman1966 is our resident Sundstrand Hydro expert. He should chime in soon. 3 hours ago, 978GT14 said: rototilling and broke the output shaft on my sundstrand pump. When you say output shaft are you referring to the shaft with a double pulley on it? If that is the shaft in question a good closeup picture would be helpful because they came in a few different configurations.
978GT14 2 #4 Posted April 8 Yes I called in an output shaft but maybe you call it an input shaft Or maybe an input / output shaft but it is the shaft with the double pulley on it. Thank you for the welcome I am what you might call a wheel horse nut I have four of them so far Two are running and two are not But the gt14 is my favorite and I hope I can get her going again I spoke with LJ today and they are going to pull a shaft out for me and send it to me with the seals and gaskets I'm a carpenter by trade and a half-ass mechanic at night I hope I can pull this off because I really love the old horse
