Maynardb 13 #1 Posted April 8 (edited) Hi im working on an H55 on my old suburban tractor and the float is bad. Does anyone know where I can get one either new or in good shape? Also a new bowl gasket and float needle valve? Pretty sure the carb is original so does that make it a tillotson? thx Edited April 8 by Maynardb
Achto 28,682 #2 Posted April 8 I suggest just buying a whole carb. https://www.amazon.com/Carburetor-Tecumseh-Engines-tecumseh-snowblowers/dp/B07RZPFDV2/ref=asc_df_B07RZPFDV2?mcid=ff3414fccbbf38fbba37a4ca3959cc19&hvocijid=13012204559501809747-B07RZPFDV2-&hvexpln=73&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=721245378154&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13012204559501809747&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1016367&hvtargid=pla-2281435178338&psc=
Maynardb 13 #3 Posted April 8 That carb would probably work but I’d have to change the choke lever setup and perhaps a few other things. The original carb is in good shape, minimal wear on the throttle shaft and adjusts well, just needs the float because it overflows after a minute. It has a pin hole in it

Heat the float with a heat gun or blow dryer with that hole facing down. The warm air will compress and push the gas out of the float. When it's empty, solder the hole. WH H55s used different carbs depending on the year I light the gas on fire and use that to heat the air and push it out but I'm not sure what other people are comfortable doing. ri702bill 8,940 #6 Posted April 8 OK - where on the float is the hole located - it does make a difference.......
Maynardb 13 #7 Posted April 8 It’s along the top edge near the pivot point. I tried to solder it, which I did, but it must have stuff inside that I can hear rattling around so it doesn’t float as it should

That was just the first one that popped up when I looked, there are many more choices. For the price it might be worth getting one just to steal parts out of it.
