Wheel Horse Wheel Weights ID

Hey guys. Did WH make steel wheel weights? I know they made the plastic covered cement ones but did they make steel ones? If so, how do you identify them ? Are the marked? Did they make inter and outer weights? Looking at some tomorrow morning and owner says they are Wheel Horse. Any photos or help would be appreciated.  Thanks

With the exception of the 953/1054/GT-14 inside weights my guess would be they didn't make wheel weights in house. Even those did not have Wheel Horse branding on them.    :confusion-shrug:      8" and 12" wheel weights were a low demand common item that would have taken up factory space while they were busy building all the tractors they could.

They probably outsourced the plastic covered cement ones too though the early front frame weights were likely an in house item.

Sorry EB, no pics. He has a set of Bolens weights, when I was talking him about those he said he also had a set of white Wheel Horse weights. I asked if they were the plastic covered cement ones he said no, all steel. Was wondering if it was worth the drive to go check them out. He has some Wheel Horse parts as well. I don't usually buy parts but if the price is right who knows.

We use the Bolens weights here. They're heavier. 65 lbs each.

Any steel wheel weights are selling for about $2 per pound nowadays.

The Wheelhorse steel weights are rare.

If you get pics of the parts and have questions do feel free to ask.

Outer "standard" Wheel horse weights look like these. They fit 8 and 12 inch wheels. The also had inner weights, and larger ones for 15 inch wheels.

I've seen them in red, white or black.

Well like Eb said, about $2 per lb seems to be the going rate.

I think that's crazy myself, but I'm cheap. Wife calls me Colonel Klink...

Yes sir, mine does too. She calls me Klink only referring to my cheapo attitude.

She has a name for most all of my "faults"...

And a few for all my other unusual mannerisms. :P

I think they were filled with sand or something similar. I have one with a small nick in it & whatever was in it all leaked out, (just an empty shell). It was like that when I got it so I can't say for sure. I was never curious enough to open up one of my good ones to find out. :confusion-shrug:

I've commented on this before, but I use 25 pound barbell cast iron plates and made my own wheel weights. A local guy buys & selled used gym equipment and has a pile of various weight plates for $1 a pound, last time I checked. Drilling and tapping them can be an adventure..... For me, it's all about functionality, not lineage, for a seasonal item.....

I have bought a  set of " Wheel Horse " steel weights brand new in a box from an old Cub Cadet dealer.  Yes they were outsourced. I have seen them on AMF machines as well.

Plain weights $1 a pound.  WH weights $2 a lb.

And probably made from the same lower grade coarse grain cast iron....:dunno:

WHX??

I was led to believe the ones KP pictured were "original" :wh: weights until the plastic ones came out. Guessing that's in part because I have never saw them on any other brand  tractor. I also think it's pretty common to see Bolens & Cub weights on a horse. Why I have no clue. Maybe just more out there and a reasonable price??

That is totally acceptable for HER,   But don't try to give HER such little cutesy names.     :law-policered:    You will be ticketed for going the wrong way on a one way street.

I'd believe that.

I've never seen a set WH weights in person unless it was at @stevebo's in years past.

Cub weights of some sorts fit both front and rear wheels depending on the tractor size. They're also stackable.

Bolens weights have been much easier to find over here.

We have some of both.

Bolens and the little 25 lb. Farmall /Cub Cadet are the only wheel weights I've come across with a brand name or symbol on them. Power King had W-12 and W-16 on their weights. You would think if Wheel Horse actually made their steel weights, they would at least have the :wh: emblem cast into them. The weights I bought from the CC dealer said those weights came from IH. The box was so old all of the numbers on it were faded away

There might be a few steel wheel weights out there but most a Cast Iron or the plastic filled .

I found my steel ones as cut outs at the scrap yard many years ago. They weights 44 lbs. each. Had two turned down to fit in the 12" wheels. and bolted the other two to the out side.

Well I got pictures of the weights. Can't make out what it says on the white pair. Something SPECIAL I think it says. Anyways the white pair he claims to be Wheel Horse. Not sure we can agree on a price.

Agreed.

Still worth money but not like a really Wheelhorse set.

Metal. Plastic I avoid as they are usually falling apart or will be soon.
