Hello, I have a Wheel Horse Tractor with an Kohler K341.  I am looking at replacing the engine.  What I want to know is the engine mount bolt patter, is it the same for the K341, F321 etc block.  I am thinking they have the same "oil pan" and the mount bolt patter would be the same.  Am I correct on that?  Thanks, Salty

Assuming you meant K321 and not F321

If they were the same block base size.  Engines used on isolation mounts had different oil pans and may not accept the up from below bolts used on regular engines.

What pfrederi is referring to is the Kohler 10hp K241 to 16hp K341 all have the same size "Large Block". (The K141, 161, 181 are a Small Block)  However from about 1978 to 198? the Large Block engines were available in a Small Base and Large Base style.  The The WH that used the cradle mounts with rubber mounts used the Large Bock/Small Base Engines.

So it really depends what tractor you have.  This thread will explain with pictures.

Very easily converted if the threaded holes do not pass all the way through on the PTO side.

A Wheel Horse spec Kohler K series engine would have threaded holes in the bottom of the oil pan on the shaft side which accommodate bolts to go through WH frame to mount it. Other Kohler spec engines would not have those threaded holes in the oil pan. BUT, J bolts can be used through the common ear style mount holes in order to hold it to the WH frame.  

Yes, any Kohler K series engine can be mounted to a WH frame one way or another.  :twocents-02cents:

If you have a drill press and 3/8 x 16 tap- they are simple to correctly fix the pan that doesn't have holes all the way through:

 

1. On your drill press, use a 1/8 drill bit to drill the two PTO side holes all the way through. The factory holes have a chamfer in the bottom that will center the 1/8 drill bit. The smaller bit also won't damage existing threads.  

 

2. Flip the pan, and drill the two 1/8 holes with a 5/16 bit from the bottom. The 1/8 holes will keep the 5/16 bit centered. Stop drilling as soon as the bit breaks FULLY through into the factory holes, so you don't damage the existing threads.  

 

3. Flip the pan again. From the top, chase the existing threads with the tap. When you reach the 5/16 bore, you'll begin cutting new threads. This ensures one continuous thread all the way through. Back the tap out regularly and clean the tap. Use plenty of cutting oil. Once you get all the way through, you have a Wheel Horse spec oil pan. 

 

The pan can be reversed. If for some reason you make a mistake, spin to the other two holes and just convert the other side. Just keep in mind where the oil drain plug is.
