As Ed @Ed Kennell said, the PTO is the first place to look. There is also the brake switch that needs to be made up to crank from the switch. Check the fuses and fuse holders to be sure they are clean.

Under the seat there is a Model Number, post that and we can give you better information.

Welcome ! To me I would check the safety switches first. Brake on, sit on the seat, make sure it's in neutral,  PTO is off. Then I would check the key switch. Good luck with it.

The PTO must be disengaged to complete the starting circuit.

Im working on my 414-8.  I just had to replace the solenoid ($9 on amazon).

Maybe these diagrams will help, too:

The 73400 was produced 1993-1996. The tractor serial number's first 2 digits reversed is the model  year.

Hope the wiring is the same for all years. Download this file for simple diagrams for each circuit.

Here are two pages from the Demystification Guide for your 314 with added notes that should be helpful. Cleaning and tightening ALL electrical connections including grounds is very important when searching for an electrical problem.

It is therefor reasonable to say the battery and large cables are not the problem. Make up a light duty jumper cable or buy a bunch for $ 4.00 at Harbor Freight.     Cen-Tech 18 in. 5 Colors Test Lead and Alligator Clips Set

With the ignition switch OFF, transmission in neutral and wheels blocked to prevent the tractor from moving connect one end of a cable to the battery + terminal and touch the other end to the small terminal of your solenoid that has a purple wire on it, the solenoid should close and the starter turn the engine.

If the solenoid did close move back to the purple wire on the PTO switch. The PTO switch is located next to the battery on the right side as viewed from the operator's seat.  With the ignition switch OFF, transmission in neutral and wheels blocked to prevent the tractor from moving connect the jumper from the battery + to the PTO purple  wire. Now step on the clutch pedal and the solenoid should close and the engine turn over.

If the solenoid did close move back to the tan wire on your ignition switch.  With the ignition switch OFF, transmission in neutral and wheels blocked to prevent the tractor from moving and the PTO lever in the OFF position connect the jumper from the battery + to the tan wire from the ignition switch. Now step on the clutch pedal and the solenoid should close and the engine turn over.

Let us know how you do with these tests.

So the TAN wire from the ignition switch going to the PTO switch needs to be inspected. I probably passes through a five wire connector (with four wires) between the engine and the tractor wiring. There could be a broken wire in that area.

Looks like there are two Tan wires going to the key switch and looks like I might have to remove some stuff to be able to trace the wires thanks for your help really appreciate it thanks

@wvhunter  agree with @953 nut  with the light duty clip on  wire leads , horses are known for , chafed , heat  cracked wiring , once you find the issue , don,t be afraid  to  slightly reroute  original set up and use , https://www.google.com/search?q=stretch+wire+covering&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS866US866&oq=stretch+wire+covering+&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQIRigATIHCAIQIRirAjIHCAMQIRirAjIHCAQQIRirAtIBCTExOTI3ajFqNKgCCLACAfEFChc9tjNhRvU&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#oshopproduct=gid:16911182459789499013,mid:576462678680080362,oid:11945260140200717221,iid:16034390776896538401,pvt:hg,pvo:3&oshop=apv&pvs=0   spiral  wire wrap , there is also  STICK ON   mounts for this , letting you  set up a  much better , wiring  layout . eliminate tight bends , get away from heat areas . IMPORTANT,VERIFY  your gains as you go ,  personally use those clip on leads , all the time , pete

Battery is hooked up correctly with some help I have narrowed it down to the tan wire coming from the key switch having a break in it somewhere but having a hard time finding it

Tan wire could be the problem or perhaps the PTO switch isn't making a connection. Move the test wire to the tan wire at the PTO switch.

With the ignition switch OFF, transmission in neutral and wheels blocked to prevent the tractor from moving and the PTO lever in the OFF position connect the jumper from the battery + to the tan wire at the PTO switch. Now step on the clutch pedal and the solenoid should close and the engine turn over. If the engine turns over with this test then it is the tan wire, if not then that half of PTO switch isn't closing. Try moving the PTO handle a bit to see if that changes anything.
