953 nut 57,498 #3 Posted Thursday at 11:11 PM As Ed @Ed Kennell said, the PTO is the first place to look. There is also the brake switch that needs to be made up to crank from the switch. Check the fuses and fuse holders to be sure they are clean. Under the seat there is a Model Number, post that and we can give you better information.
D_Mac 9,034 #4 Posted Thursday at 11:26 PM Welcome ! To me I would check the safety switches first. Brake on, sit on the seat, make sure it's in neutral, PTO is off. Then I would check the key switch. Good luck with it.

Wv hunter 3 #6 Posted yesterday at 01:02 AM Thanks for letting me join this site and thanks for the help trying to navigate how to comment on each post model number is 73400 and I am not very mechanically inclined but willing to try
Ed Kennell 40,250 #7 Posted yesterday at 01:11 AM The PTO must be disengaged to complete the starting circuit.
HyperPete 424 #8 Posted yesterday at 01:31 AM Im working on my 414-8. I just had to replace the solenoid ($9 on amazon). Maybe these diagrams will help, too:
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,210 #9 Posted yesterday at 02:19 AM The 73400 was produced 1993-1996. The tractor serial number's first 2 digits reversed is the model year. Hope the wiring is the same for all years. Download this file for simple diagrams for each circuit.
953 nut 57,498 #10 Posted yesterday at 11:29 AM Here are two pages from the Demystification Guide for your 314 with added notes that should be helpful. Cleaning and tightening ALL electrical connections including grounds is very important when searching for an electrical problem.
Wv hunter 3 #11 Posted 22 hours ago I cleaned the ground made sure everything is tight checked fuses made sure PTO is off but I did find where the plug wire goes into the coil looks like half into I guess a rat chewed on it I know I need a coil and I pressed clutch and brake and still no power

Make up a light duty jumper cable or buy a bunch for $ 4.00 at Harbor Freight. With the ignition switch OFF, transmission in neutral and wheels blocked to prevent the tractor from moving connect one end of a cable to the battery + terminal and touch the other end to the small terminal of your solenoid that has a purple wire on it, the solenoid should close and the starter turn the engine. If the solenoid did close move back to the purple wire on the PTO switch. The PTO switch is located next to the battery on the right side as viewed from the operator's seat. With the ignition switch OFF, transmission in neutral and wheels blocked to prevent the tractor from moving connect the jumper from the battery + to the PTO purple wire. Now step on the clutch pedal and the solenoid should close and the engine turn over. If the solenoid did close move back to the tan wire on your ignition switch. With the ignition switch OFF, transmission in neutral and wheels blocked to prevent the tractor from moving and the PTO lever in the OFF position connect the jumper from the battery + to the tan wire from the ignition switch. Now step on the clutch pedal and the solenoid should close and the engine turn over. Let us know how you do with these tests. 1
Wv hunter 3 #13 Posted 5 hours ago Ok I done the test from battery to purple wire on solenoid and motor turned over I done test from battery to purple wire on pto and motor turned over I done test to battery to tan wire on key switch but motor did not turn over I did remove key switch and put wire inside of connector though
953 nut 57,498 #14 Posted 4 hours ago So the TAN wire from the ignition switch going to the PTO switch needs to be inspected. I probably passes through a five wire connector (with four wires) between the engine and the tractor wiring. There could be a broken wire in that area.

Looks like there are two Tan wires going to the key switch and looks like I might have to remove some stuff to be able to trace the wires thanks for your help really appreciate it thanks
