New Member from North Central AR, 314-8

Thanks for the add. Purchased my father-in-law's 1999 314-8 that he bought new, he used it for mowing his 3 acre yard until a couple years ago when he bought a zero turn. It was in pieces when I hauled it home, got it put back together and running. I mowed with it for about a year, and now it has sat for about a year.  Need to do a little more work on it, but that's for a different post. Thanks all.

Always happy to see a Wheel Horse passed down to a new generation in the family. Sounds like you know your way around a garden tractor having put a basket case back together.

Not exactly a basket case… I’ve hauled worse home before (just not wheelhorse). Just put back together what my father in law started, and with subsequent trips to his shed looking for missing pieces.., think I found most of them.,

@Ol' Geezer  WELCOME !  would make a definite  point of getting after that paint , stop it before it starts , like a  mineral oil on clean cloth , for the paint ,  MOTHERS , BACK TO BLACK  ON THE  BLACK PLASTIC TRIM  , would also drop that deck and check it for retaining build up ,get it in the sun after cleaning  , standing on lower wheel edge ,with an oil soaking  going on , blade sharpening , thorough  service , saving that  is what you want , lots of other details , pete

@Ol' Geezer     this what I regularly do to my decks , to verify what's going on , also the baking / drying heat  , draws in a lubrication feed , that stains the  deck black , this deck also had the  baffles on it , which I removed , they were always packed with  damp grass , enhancing rot , also do this at season end , so decks set over winter , basically  held in place  , up to wall with  a spring to a screw in eye bolt . my 3 decks look the same way , also use hi temp / hi stress grease  in every related bearing , imagine NO BEARING WHYINE , also effortless pto lever engagement , no screaming clutch . ben doing this for years , pete
