Engine fitted and waiting for a remotely accurate belt length... I'm pretty happy so far, but power to the wheels and brakes are next...

I've got a set of those Commando wide rear axles like you have on this one. Your project has got me thinking it's time to use them... maybe when I finish the 701.

@Ed Kennell and @953 nut either of you have a picture of how the "stop" bar above the clutch pulley attaches to the pulley arm? I ran it tonight and I will definitely need either that bar or something like it to stop the belt to change gears...

Other ideas welcome... Dan was this your thinking on this comment?:

How about throwing out a request for clutch / brake shaft & ends for a square hood. Should turn this into a bolt on application. :twocents-twocents:

@Achto @Pullstart @oliver2-44 @ebinmaine @WHX?? ?

Some are fixed (welded) and some are adjustable just being clamped between the pulley and the lever.

I may have a fixed assembly.  I'll look tomorrow.

A recipe to make 1 belt brake for the idle pulley:

1 piece of 16g sheet metal about 1" to 1 1/2"  x 4"

1 drill & 3/8" drill bit

1 vise

1 hammer

1 metal cutting devise

Cut, drill & bend to fit your application.

A pic of the one on my 953

Thanks Dan! I'll get my apron on and get cooking...

Is yours attached with just the pulley bolt for easy adjustment or did you add another bolt to the pulley arm?

I do believe that one is welded to the arm. Using the pulley mounting bolt will work well too.

That may be needed... but in the meantime,

I'll start with both Seniors. Can you have them spruced up and ready to go? I'll be there in 15 minutes... :D

Since its welded on there from stock I could cut it very low if you wanted or if anyone knows how to get it off?? The picture isn't great but really all it needs is sand primer paint

I couldn't find mine Jim.   You have a good pic of the welded one.    The adjustable style just had a drilled hole for the bolt and was on the other side of the lever. I think there was a spacer between the pulley and the belt brake piece.

Thanks for checking and the feedback. I think I have enough to go on... I'll be searching the "parts department" tonight and see what I come up with.

Started fab work on a belt brake... used Dan's recipe.

Belt jumps right off if clutch depressed all the way, so I'll need something for that as well... thinking idler and / or guides on the belt guards... :eusa-think:

Is there a runner of some sort under the lower half of the belt to catch the slack when the clutch is depressed?

That's next... either incorporated into the belt guard or a idler pulley... kinda like @kpinnc suggested in post 23:

I know Kevin would have already had this on the road and then put up on the shelf by now, but I am taking the more Colossus approach, routed in Maine's deep woods philosophical WH Guru @ebinmaine - "No Tractor before it's time..." now, where did I put that clock? :confusion-confused:
