Tonytoro416 1,092 #1 Posted Saturday at 01:45 AM Anyone have this problem? I assume I need a new spring but what can be done as far as repairing the end plate where the spring has been working on it ?
adsm08 2,536 #2 Posted Saturday at 01:57 AM Good luck. I have two like that, and have been tilting at this particular windmill for about 6 years now. The problem is that the metal is so impregnated with hydraulic fluid that nothing sticks to it, so products like quik-steel don't work well. I've been told you can't weld it in and re-drill because it will warp. I tried sticking a short length of brake line down in there and it kinda worked, but the brake line always works loose, and I can't find an adhesive that will bind it. Man I don’t want to not have this as part of my restoration Well, to paraphrase Edison, I haven't failed, I just found a bunch of things that don't work. I will say, the broken spring does very little to prevent proper operation of the unit. You just have to be mindful to manually return the valve to the neutral position or it will heat up and usually burns up the pulley shaft seal. Tonytoro416 1,092 #6 Posted Saturday at 02:28 AM The spring needs to remain “free” at the ends correct ?

The spring should be rather tight going into the holes, it will flex at the points where the eyes are bent in it. I would suggest drilling out both holes for ROLL PINS and using the 1054 type spring. Lowell has the springs. https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/product/5261-wheel-horse-1054-spring-qty-1/
