gt14rider 832 #1 Posted March 23 Hi all, thinking of replacing old mechanical fuel pump with a electric pump. Any feed back on a good replacement. Refreshing a charger 12, for a old friend and he is not mechanical at all, trying to make it simple for him. any info would be appreciated.

Here are the electric pumps I've collected part numbers of: Facet 60245 or 60304. Mr. Gasket 42s. Carter P4070. I use and recommend the very first one.

The Mr.Gasket 42 S and the Facet 60245 are the exact same pump. As well as the Carbole pump and the Napa 610-1051. Same pump in a different box and different prices to match 1
gt14rider 832 #4 Posted March 23 So his tractor does have the metal body fuel pump, you think just stay with that and get rebuild kit from (Then and Now auto ) ?

IMHO: Provided you can properly identify the fuel pump and the parts are readily available that's the way I'd go. Saves wiring and making a block off plate. YMMV....
squonk 42,433 #6 Posted March 23 I go electric when ever the fuel pump operation gets questionable. No risk of fuel getting into the oil. 3

Aircraft Spruce has em for $55 ish. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pnpages/05-10882.php While you're on that site you could also buy the excellent quality 90⁰ fuel shutoff valves for both 1/8" threads and the grommet style, and grommets!

gt14rider 832 #14 Posted March 24 Thanks everyone, for the info, will look at the mechanical pump to check condition and parts available. I'll talk to my friend and see if he wants to spend the money on a facet pump. Got to make sure this thing runs before dropping a lot of money on this. Been sitting 15 - 20 years . May have some wiring to do ,perfect time to wire a new pump. We'll see. Thanks again
Racinbob 11,702 #15 Posted March 24 (edited) I have the Mr. Gasket 42S (about $50) on two of mine and two of the other tractors have the cheapies on them. So far no problems with any of them. The 42S pumps have a whir sound and I'd assume all the better units do. The cheapies sound like a little piston pump. Of course the sound doesn't matter once the engine is running. I decided a while back to get a spare cheapie for the shelf and I ended up with three for less than $20 delivered. I'm about set to use one of them on another machine. I just put one on Mongo (M18) when the fuel pump stopped working last fall

Mike'sHorseBarn 3,115 #21 Posted March 25 I'm gonna get one of those facet's to put on my C-161. It has a hard time getting fuel from the tank to start up when it's been sitting for a while and cranks and cranks. An electric fuel pump should remedy that.

The only running horse I have one of those pumps on right now is the 1974 C160-8 Tecumsehorse. I went that direction because rebuilding the OE fuel pump was more than a challenge and I didn't want to deal with it at the time. Glad I did. That thing starts almost instantly every single time no matter how cold.
