6wheeler 661 #1 Posted 20 hours ago Hi all. I need some help on a 1996 John Deere 445 fuel injected tractor. The problem I am having is when I start it. The tractor was in need of a lot of tlc when I got it. It came with many implements and the price was very good. I put a new filter in and found the pickup hose on the pump was cracked. I replaced that and the tractor started. The problem is it runs wide open. I replaced the Map sensor. And the temp sensor. It didn't change anything. I am thinking the fuel pressure regulator may be the culprit as there is a lot of return line pressure. Since the return line goes to a "T" that goes back to the tank and also a line that goes to the pressure drain off valve in the throttle body. If I disconnect the return line from the regulator, It has a lot of pressure coming from the bottom of the regulator from the return. I don't have a book on this machine so I don't know how much pressure there should be. But to me, it seems excessive. I was wondering if is in fact forcing gas into the throttle body through that relief valve. Or, if it even could. I don't want to be shotgunning more parts at it. Especially because I already spent more than I wanted through advice of the JD dealer. He is loving me right now. I first thought of the governor. But, I don't think it has ever been messed with. I checked for vacuum leaks with starting fluid and propane and didn't notice any issues. Honestly? I am stumped. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
