Beap52 1,078 #1 Posted March 1 Mom and I made a trip from south Missouri to north Missouri-more than 6 hours of driving for me. We delivered the 500 lbs of fescue grass seed we will be sowing once the water ways are completed. We, along with my brother, burned a brush pile and began tearing out some fencing that is not needed. We talked with an adjoining neighbor about the abandoned rail road right of way that I have written about elsewhere. I think the highlight for mom was to get to see the recently purchased (2014-100 hp) Kubota tractor. Mom even got to drive it. Not too bad when you consider this 89 years old woman was in the hospital and nursing home rehab three months a little over a year ago following a botched biopsy. 3 13 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Erma is in assisted living--which we all agree has helped her health-3 meals a day, medicines are closely monitored, 24 hour nurses if needed plus interaction with other inn-mates (as folks in nursing homes were called 75 years ago). But a trip to the farm is always a welcome diversion for mom. She reminisced about how she and dad were embarrassed to tell folks how much they paid for the farm in 1963. How dad was stuck in a snow storm trying to get home from work in the city and she was alone and up all night assisting sheep giving birth because we three boys were too young to help. We rode around inspecting the fields and work we are having done (restoration of cropland that has been encroached upon by brush) as well as keeping an eye how well the water ways are protecting the dirt from washing. Mom isn't new to operating farm machinery. Mom and dad each had their own tractor--tractors that had cabs--something that was lacking when we boys were inn-mates on the farm. 1 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
