Original Tractor Cabs

Recommended Posts

JCM

I have had a few people ask if my OTC cab was up for grabs. I have not used it in 3 years because of minimal snow depths in recent years. I am reluctant to sell it for that reason and a few others. It has been stored inside and in VGC. 3 years ago I bought one for my JD for Winter use to get out of the wind mainly. When I ordered it I noticed on the site the Toro /  WH cabs for the 300, 400 and 500 series were NLA but were for the 260, 270 & XT series. Was on their site today and appears all of those are currently available. Thought I would just put it out here in case anyone has interest. I have had mine for 25 years and was $$$$$$  well spent and still looks great. The price for the 3,4, & 500 series is  $ 1349.99. A phone call to them would be recommended to confirm. Just letting you guy's know.  Great people to deal with.  Stay Warm

Thanks Ed. Do you have any info other than in your mind on how you heated your cab ?  I have a spare right hand side belt cover that i could alter and save the one on there now. Not sure if you would do a short write up and some pictures on your invention. I am jealous when I see your thermostat in the cab with a 60 degree temp  Always admired it, genius .   @Ed Kennell

There are some pictures somewhere on here Jim.    I'm not sure I'll be able to find them.

Basically I vented the belt guard and made a sheet metal housing around the area.  Then did some nip and sewing to the cab to fit over the housing.   The cab was damaged in this area from the muffler heat.     I did find this pic.   The canvas was altered to attach to this housing.   IMG_3078.JPG.cf758d84529ce2fba6aceea44f2d7ef3.JPG       I could get some pics tomorrow.

The canvas has grommets that fit over the two 1/4" hex bolts to attach the two.  hard to see in these pics.

Good thread Plunger.

I have a cab on all three of my 520 sno movers.

The one at the love shack is/was for a C series but bought for 50 from a guy who had it on a '67 model.

Wasn't too hard to modify for a 520 ... couple of fabs of 1/2" conduit for brackets and no bump out for the chute turner.

I don't have Ed's mod but do have vented belt guards and still get some heat up in the cab.

A little history on how I acquired the OTC . I was looking at a local classified add back around 2001-2 and came across an add for WH parts that included the OTC, Kwik-Way weight box with brackets and hardware to mount it without the loader frame mounted.  The loader frame and and the rear 520- H rear extension for a 1991 with the forward swept axle to use with a 48'' dozer blade that I had for the 312-8. Also some misc other small parts. Stumbled on this because the Gentleman I purchased it from had just bought the house with all these parts left in the garage and had no use for them. Don't find that too often.   @WHX??

10 inches of powder and blowing like a $2 lady of the nite at the love shack.

Not even close to the right cab for a 520.

As mentioned supposed to be for a C series but better than a poke in the eye with a dull stick and actually fit fairly decent. Price was decent too.

Biggest problem is it does not have the bump out for the chute turner. The crank hits the door and a real hassle with gloves on.

I have a door that was given to me by @dclarke and no idea what this flap is for ... access to a blade lever maybe? Doesn't really work either.

Any ideas?

Get rid of it! I made mine electric with a car window motor for about $30, works great. It's fairly easy to do & easier to service/store the blower without having to mess with the crank & brackets. I mounted the switch in the dash for a nice OE look. Your blower has the worm gear to turn the chute which might be even easier to fab up than the cable system on mine. :handgestures-thumbupright:

No doubt Blaster ... I have one  set up with that plus a deflector actuator. Is the cat's meow. Trouble is this one gets used less than than that one so it just don't pay.

Seems like one wants to keep a low hour tractor just turn it into a dedicated sno tractor!

NICE! Well then, I do have some extra front cab panels, I made my cab out of 3 different ones, one might have the bump out, I'll have a look & let you know...

The flap on the door is to vent the aftermath of the big pot of winter chili.

Yep I hear ya there... may see about swapping the door panel off the electric but the door latches are all different. Permanent mods would be required. Will look at modding the chute crank.

I have had 2 cabs. One on my C-160 and the other on a 73 12 and a 520. Had to get rid of both. They were great for plowing at night but in the day I couldn't see a thing out of them. Especially after a storm and with the sun shining bright. Can't weld anymore and can barely braze because of what the light does to my eyes. Guess it's from using a cutting torch without dark glasses for years.

Mine has the bump out on the left door for the left side dually crank.

I actually prefer the hand crank....much faster than the lectric.        I do need to add an in cab chute control.     I used a cable throttle lever on one of my singles.  It worked great.

Does anyone know if OTC still offers the glass windshield and top in BLACK like yours @WHX??  Jim ?  I always thought it looked way better than the white. The one on the JD 3320 is all black, roof and panels. It is amazing how warm it gets in there without a heater just from the sun and of course out of the wind is a huge difference. Nice looking 520 Jimbo, hydro foot pedal and all. Your Styling.
