DeHart16 37 #1 Posted February 17 The belt for my starter generator on my 753 went flying off, I replaced it, and soon as I did I had smoke from what looked like under the carb? Drove it for 5 minutes n heard a loud pop, or bang. now I can’t get it running? Sounds like fly wheel isn’t catching?
pfrederi 18,201 #2 Posted February 17 Have you taken the belt cover of sounds like you may have smoked your new belt which then broke making the noise...
ri702bill 8,769 #3 Posted February 17 My money is that the belt is the victim, not the cause. Check the S/G for ease of rotation with the belt off. It should spin freely without drag... yours probably won't.
DeHart16 37 #4 Posted February 18 Well new belt did not break…..I am trying to post video but apparently the file is too big….
pfrederi 18,201 #5 Posted February 18 Is the belt slipping on the S/G or the Flywheel

DeHart16 37 #7 Posted February 19 Thanks guys, here is a link to the video. There was smoke coming from. Possibly above the points area on engine prior to hearing the pop/crack….
pfrederi 18,201 #8 Posted February 19 Can't see any smoke... Take the belt off the S/G push the starter button let the S/G start spinning and listen for noise..bad bearing or internal issue??
rmaynard 15,814 #9 Posted February 19 It's spinning a little too fast for the S/G to be turning over an engine with compression. Take off the belt and see how freely the engine turns. I hate to say it but it sounds like something broken inside the crankcase. 3 1
DeHart16 37 #10 Posted February 19 So knowing little to nothing about engines, I assume that would mean I need a knew one?

squonk 41,964 #14 Posted Thursday at 01:18 PM Probably broke the connecting rod. When it let go, it locked up for a second and that's why the belt flew off.

richmondred01 2,285 #16 Posted Thursday at 02:55 PM (edited) If it chipped the apron skirt you will need to sleeve the cylinder. Edited Thursday at 02:56 PM by richmondred01

If the cylinder is broken high enough that the thrust face of the piston pushes into it, or if the ring catch it, it might run...briefly, the cylinder skirt helps to stabilize the piston at the bottom of the stroke.
