Kevin Bowley 139 #1 Posted Monday at 08:03 AM (edited) Hi, I have been trying to fix the cruise control on my 522xi. I can't find the cruise control module anywhere, and with the complex foot pedal motion control, the stupid smart steer, and the linkage for the cruise, makes for a heavy pedal when plowing a 3/10 mile driveway at full speed. Could someone help out? Also, any further suggestions for resolving it would be helpful. The service manual is of no help regarding the location of the bugger. Thanks. JoeM 7,886 #4 Posted Monday at 01:07 PM I am pretty sure the module in on the fire wall, a small rectangular block with a black, yellow and brown wire plugged into it.

Kevin Bowley 139 #6 Posted Tuesday at 07:27 AM (edited) The service manual states Quote The cruise control and taillights share the same connector, which is located under the right fender. Which is maybe why my rear taillights are not working as well. However, the plug is clean and sealed with no corrosion. It has 12 volts on the hot wire. I'm gonna pull the fender and fuel tank and get a look see...of course I must remove the cab...PITA. I would love to disconnect the smart steer but i see no way to get at it without dropping the transmission...stupid. (if the fuel gauge, temp gauge and panel lights work fuse is good) The remaining items like the tail lights share a ground the black wire. That cruise switch plug can be got to by removing the right rear wheel, but before I would get into that find that relay on the fire wall and put a momentary jumper between the yellow and brown wire and see if it activates. Also another place to look is under the center cover above the rock shaft. there is a switch on the brake linkage that deactivates the cruise relay check it too.

I plan to remove the fender and fuel tank to get this mess fixed. I tested the switch and ground at the plug under the fender, and all is good. Where is that linkage you are showing, the steering box? Mine does not look like that, I have power steering, so maybe it is different? But I will crawl under and have a look see. IIRC Mine just has one arm coming out of the steering box that the rod connects to. Thanks! Also, the brake switch works fine. One more, where is that electrical block located on the tractor? I can't find it. I have three relays, or maybe four on the rear of the bulkhead behind the engine shroud, and they are all fine as I have swapped them all out with new ones. Okay, one more, LOL, I lubricated all the linkage rods hem joints by pulling the rubber back a bit and dropping some 30w motor oil on the sockets as well as the rods that just slide in with a cotter pin to hold them and haphazardly blew what lithium in from the rear just above the brake drum and behind the right tire, as well as the cruise control plate pivot bolt under the seat, and the motion control pedal is MUCH easier to push now. JoeM 7,886 #9 Posted Wednesday at 09:34 PM I have disconnect a couple of those smart steers and as long as you bolt the end down that was removed from the steering lever they work fine. All my machines are power steering. This might help He is the relay location for the cruise.
