Does it not burn as good or clean with the oil feeding directly into the bottom reservoir area? The only reason I ask is because it seems like the partial burn/heat of it on the way down would or might cause some more soot or smoke because it's not as clean or thorough of a burn in that area on the way down. Adding the air tube around the oil drip seems like it cleaned things up a ton. It pushes the fire away from the end of the tube, so it doesn’t burn back, plus it breaks apart the oil like a crude injector nozzle, or a MAPP gas torch. The reason I didn’t feed oil directly into the bottom of the pot, was merely ease of assembly. The air tube likely also maintains a level of cooling so I don’t cook the oil inside the tube.

Tractorhead 9,087 #103 Posted March 9 Hey Bro, another interesting Work you made. Congrats to your Success. It seems the both brakediscs designed and made for that. Pretty cool burnersystem. i thinkered about an nozzleburner when i read the headline. but a dripburner is also pretty Cool. At a friends place we fired several years ago lot of old Oilfilters in an Wood oven when temps drops below -18 degC to heat up his Workshop. They heated up the Stove extreme quickly, but i would suggesting keep the combustion air from outside like the exhaust to outside also. So you be in an Combustionfree Area. a flame backfire ain‘t be funny - believe me 😎😎👍
Pullstart 64,158 #104 Posted March 10 I picked up a pretty cool oil storage bin this weekend. It’s a 65 gallon capacity and has a dipstick, pump, extra large fill port, and it’s on casters! I have some 5 gallon sized paint strainers to clean the oil going in, and an in-line filter setup to filter it on the way up to the gravity bin storage tanks. 1
Pullstart 64,158 #105 Posted March 10 I found the patents on that pump and tank are from 1909-1912, made in South Bend, Indiana. Maybe it was a family member of the Ponds that had to do with such a cool pump! It is (was) calibrated to deliver 1/2 pint, 1 pint, or 1 quart. The 1 quart pump was a 10 second advertised promise. I just filled my LP tanks in a matter of a few minutes. I’m happy! 1
Tractorhead 9,087 #106 Posted March 12 The Old things they just lasting and lasting.... interesting oil Cabinett you built. as far as i understand, the clear hose between the both tanks is the Filling gauge - isn‘t it? Cool idea !
Tractorhead 9,087 #109 Posted March 13 As allready suggested bro, Please get the Combustion Air with a separate piping directly from outside the Workshop. So combustion chamber and Heated Air beeing as strictly as possible separated when the Door is closed. So even in a case of any kind of Backfire you be save and no combustion smoke will occur to you rooms Air. That is happen on all Car or Truck Air heaters to prevent poisoning or harm yourself. I would thinkering that the closed Brakediscs you’re using now works more like a Combustion chamber at the top. With the Air blowing i supposing it gives inside them a whirl, what keeps the Fire burning and reignite the Oil that Way by a nearly low pressurized Areal like the very early multifuel Heater systems back in the late 1930‘s did. They had also a smoothened part in the Combustion chamber, where the airflow was restricted to preheat and reignite the Oil or Fuel. They also had a similar Burner but as a horizon stack not as a vertical stack and with a fuelpump and a nozzle to inject a wider spread of the incoming gasoil. The idea with your „Oildrip feeding system“ is genious. 👍
Pullstart 64,158 #110 Posted March 19 It was mentioned on the FB waste oil burners group, “What about an overflow condition?” I made a 3/4” drain system for the top of the hitch ball. I can’t see this being able to overflow at the rate that oil flows through the delivery line. It’s supposed to drop 30 degrees overnight and be terrible weather all day tomorrow. I’m looking forward to running this a bit. 1
