1973 18 Automatic tuneup and fluids

Recommended Posts

S416-8

Now that I posted that my 1973 18 Auto is alive it is time to get her ready for the Spring. Looking for a few recommendations on:

  • Hydro Fluid
  • oil
  • plugs and points

any other things that I should do on a tractor that has set for years and now has been brought back to life

thanks

Hydro SHOULD be 10w-30 motor oil...but look at the dipstick is it fluid red or tan.  Tan is 10w-30  (red means some one used ATF)

Manual will say 30w for engine.  Since my D200 is lightly used but year around I use 15-40 Rotella

Good oil. Readily available, has zinc in it  - good for flat tappet engines....

GM and thanks. Tried the dip stick check and it’s dry so hoping I can zero in on filter changes. Thanks for the oil because this will be a year round machine will also do the 15-40. Thanks

I can't tell how much an electric fuel pump improved my C-160!

I find they usually just need a cleaning like the carb.   But electric pumps are also very good.

Carb cleaned and done, points cleaned, new fuel lines after I got the tank cleaned out, now if I could just dial in the jets so I can get the thing to run again it would be great.. set them the way they were but not liking that now..  Going to have a bit of a parts list to scavenge for this year at the show.

Not for nothing but I've had great suggest with Chinese carburetors. . Typically cheaper than OEM rebuild kits. 1 1/2 turns.
