Weight box or suitcase weights?

Yep. Surely from long hours of heavy use there will be wear, but failures? None that I can recall either. 

Lube ‘em and run ‘em!

As you guys are probably aware I've taken apart and rebuilt at least a dozen Transmissions of various configurations.

 

Nearly ALL of them got at least one bearing on one side.

I believe most of those were because of lack of lubrication and care as stated.

I have however seen a couple that were absolutely positively beat to snot and even bent.

Were they extreme situations? Were they in something before I got it that was really working too hard for too long? I'll never know.....

 

Seeing the rated limits in the previous post certainly makes me feel quite a bit better about the future potential.

A needle roller bearings is thus able to withstand 2 to 8 times more load than ball bearings or cylindrical roller bearings of the same shaft diameter, all this in a small space.

Well we’ve certainly confirmed that the outer bearings can handle a heavy weight box! ;)

 

To close the loop, gild the lily, show off, and fully satisfy my curiosity....

A 1533 ball bearing supports the inner end of each axle. Loads are at the wheel (~3” from the B1816), at the B1816, and at the 1533 (~8” from the B1816) so to match the outer bearing, the inner must have only 37.5% of the outer's dynamic load capacity, which I’m confident that it has but specs are not available!

So after accounting for all the geometries: to avoid risk of rear bearing failure, keep the load on a moving tractor at or below 11,400 lbs. on the rear axle (evenly across the two wheels).

You can hang suitcase weights on the edge of the weight box. No pics but I used to do that with my Power King

I have thought about this, but I'll have to reinforce the box.  The metal is pretty light gauge.

No problem if you have a FEL with the capacity to lift it.       You will need to increase the pressure in the rear tires to 110 -115psi.
