Knight Rider 1 #1 Posted February 11 (edited) Sorry for the long read…So I bought a 98’ 314/8 over the weekend, when I picked it up I noticed that the motor was really loose. So I brought it home and found that it is missing 2 motor mount bolts and the two that are there a barely holding on. So I decided to take the motor out that way it would be easier to bolt on the plates to the motor then to the frame. Checked to make sure the threads weren’t buggered up and they weren’t. Since I got the motor out I decided to tear it down to the bare frame to clean it up since it was pretty filthy, when I did that I noticed there were two bolts missing from the transaxle that bolts it to the frame. Both top and bottom bolts on the right side were missing. My question is would there be gear oil coming out that top hole of the transaxle? Because I got gear oil all over that transaxle! I’m hoping when I bolt the transaxle back to the frame that it will fix the gear oil that’s coming from somewhere. There is no gear oil on the top of the transaxle just right were it bolts up and the bottom. Thanks for any help Edited February 11 by Knight Rider Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
kpinnc 13,124 #2 Posted February 11 (edited) The holes on the 8 speed are tapped all the way through, so missing either will leak gear oil. Typically due to the oil level only the bottom two will leak. The right side motor mount bolts ( if sitting on the tractor) are installed from the bottom. That side of the oil pan is threaded all the way through where the engine bolts to the pan. The left two bolts go in the standard tabs. And what would have happened if I didn’t notice the two right side motor mount bolts missing? Wild Bill 633 862 #6 Posted February 11 (edited) You could use Permatex Form-A-Gasket No.2 Sealant or equivalent. It is used on automotive engine head bolts where the tapped holes go into the water jacket. Or red Locktite red.
