clueless 3,087 #1 Posted February 8 There is a retired Toro District Manage who live down here now. He has a what he thinks is a 56 RJ 35 but it looks to be a 57, he is selling. he says he bought it from a retired WH mechanic who refurbished it (I don't like using the word restored because it's not) It looks to be all there, not sure if everything is original but it looks great, also has the deck in the same shape. I didn't have my phone with me but I'm going back tomorrow to get some. The engine has compression and spark but he didn't have any gas but he said it ran 4 years ago when he moved here, he said he would put some gas in it if I really won't it. I've been buying and selling WHs down here for 35+ years but not these round hoods but I do have a couple. So on my scale of 1 to 10 I would call this a 7.5 to 8. Just trying to get a general price for one up there. h
c-series don 9,321 #2 Posted February 9 I believe pictures will help determine that and the RJ experts will be on it!
953 nut 57,078 #3 Posted February 9 I can't tell you what a nice RJ-35 is worth but I can tell you I sold a basket-case 1957 RJ-35 for $ 400 last summer. The buyer wanted to give me $ 500 but I felt that was too much to take from a friend. It had the Schnacke Recoil starter and a front mount reel mower which justified most of the price. @Pullstart may be able to give you an idea of value since he has bought a couple.
Easton Rich 453 #4 Posted February 9 I’ve had a chance to buy one when I needed a bigger 400 series, I didn’t but I thought they were really cool
Pullstart 63,896 #5 Posted February 9 I’ve only got my one RJ-35. I stole it for less than you sold yours Mr. Richard. Wild Bill at the big show told me it was worth thousands. In my mind, it’s worth more hanging in my barn, than in my wallet. 2
WHX?? 50,132 #6 Posted February 9 All I'm gonna say is don't let out the seller you will start a bidding war. Sons and daughters have been known to be sold to slavery for a '56 35. 1
clueless 3,087 #7 Posted February 9 I got the pictures of the RJ today. This is what it looks like. I think its a 57. what you say.
kpinnc 13,284 #8 Posted February 9 Not up on my RJs, but definitely pre-58. Regardless, it sure looks nice!
953 nut 57,078 #9 Posted February 10 That is one fine looking RJ. The belt guard is 1957. It the front of the hood has Wheel Horse in raised letters then that would also be a 1957 hood.
WHX?? 50,132 #10 Posted February 10 Yep '57 from the front rims & steering wheel. '56 would have had a cast AL wheel. $1500 tractor in these parts all day. Would probably go for more at the BS.

WHX?? 50,132 #15 Posted February 10 (edited) Many early RJs had a factory 1290 Clinton. Some might had a K90 and even a few Briggs. Briggs badged RJ-25??? Maybe Clay @rj35hunter can elaborate. Just for grins ... from a Monkey Wards catalog 1956 ... course that was alot of money back then. Edited February 11 by WHX?? 2
clueless 3,087 #16 Posted February 11 The RJ is now with the rest of the herd, I think Lil Red (704) has taken a bit of a shine to her.

evanloock 226 #18 Posted February 12 The RJ-35's never had the Clinton B-1290. They had a Clinton 1200 (3.6 hp) or a Kohler K-90 (3.6 hp). Early RJ-58's used the Clinton 1200 or Kohler K-90 as well. Most RJ-58/59's had the Clinton B-1290 (4.0 hp) or Kohler K-91 (4.0 hp). The exceedingly rare RJ-25 had a Briggs Model 8 motor (2.5 hp). 2
