JCM 9,993 #1 Posted February 6 In March of 2024 I decided it was time to become semi-retired so I could get caught up on projects that needed to get done around the home. This morning I mentioned to my significant other that I was glad it was Friday. Her response was it's Thursday I chuckled. She said you have a Doctors appointment tomorrow, oh yeah was my answer. Recently I was called to do 3 bathroom remodels in one home and two other bathrooms in two homes. The three in one home involves removing all the Extra Heavy Type cast iron vertical stacks and horizontal branch drains from the basement up through two floors into the attic to tie all the vents in, super involved. Not really any fun at all. One of them the rough plumbing is done the two other are getting ready for start up. All three have way too many stairs to even get close to the work areas. It's going to be quite a workout. Not looking forward to it but all three jobs are long time customers and I just can't say no sometimes. When i was full time I never forgot what day it was, now being away from it for 9/10 months I almost didn't care what day it was. Is this normal ? Thanks 2
ri702bill 8,925 #2 Posted February 6 Being retired since October of 2019, I use the newspaper or my cell phone to tell what day of the week it is. I tell folks it's just another day that ends in Y, or why the hell not...

Same here, now is the slow part of the year for my job so lately I’ve had more time off. I’ve gotten so used to working most of the week. I have to think about what I want to do on the days off. And, there’s the bone chilling cold lately that has also dictated my schedule….😁

Thanks I understand long time customers and not saying "No". I retired a year and half ago. Still do small jobs for long time customers. I don't charge and tell them to give to a charity of their choice what they felt the job was worth. I tell folks I don't work and I don't pay tithe nor tax. What keeps me knowing what day of the week it is, is taking grandson to his therapies three times a week, church on Sunday and This Old House on Thursday evenings.

Zero chance. I've added up just the projects I have here now. EASILY occupy myself for a strong 2 years. The BBT is very literally the ONLY person I've ever met that I can be around 24/7/365. How she tolerates ME I'll never figure out.....

Yah when I retired i was gonna do side work but a vendor's rep told me to just walk away from it all. So I kept my licenses & credentials up to date and all that good stuff. Even kept my company truck well stocked with tools & parts. Said I was just gonna do the easy stuff for the nice blue hairs that I would eat off their kitchen floor. Well that worked for awhile but then the nice blue hair would give my number out to the neighbor who has 30 overflowing cat boxes lined up in front of the furnace and those stairs.. True not crapping ya there Then it started cutting into my time at the love shack, & FISHING! No mas I said the rep was right. Gave all my tools and expensive combustion analyzers , parts ... everything to a bro I apprenticed with and now has his own successful HVAC biz. Told him to outfit a promising newbie. I other words I learned treat your retirement like you did your work. Do it right ... projects, hobbies, teaching the recliner a lesson and fishing! Yeah I get long time customers and the cash is nice bbbuuuttt I stashed coin away for retirement & learned to say no and have a number my back pocket for the bro you know and does good work. 5 hours ago, ri702bill said: it's just another day that ends in Y 1 hour ago, Wayne0 said: You'll even forget what time it is 4 hours ago, pfrederi said: 6 Saturdays and a Sunday 4 hours ago, Ed Kennell said: Every day is Saturday 5 hours ago, JCM said: didn't care what day it was. Kenneth R Cluley 579 #17 Posted February 7 Pretty much my wife and my conversation every morning. She refuses to use the "pill" dispenser and keeps ALL of her meds in the same bottle. "Thats for OLD PEOPLE" she says! I don't know how long I can keep her straight. 1
