JCM 9,993 #1 Posted February 4 @953 nut Started The Day The Music Died the wheels in my head were turning and prompted me to start this. My list of concerts is not very long but will list. Aerosmith at the Boston Garden in 1975 with Rick Derringer. Hank Williams Jr in Worcester, Ma at E.M. Lowes a very small venue. Trace Adkins at Webster lake. Charlie Daniels also at Webster lake on a later date and my favorite Waylon Jennings at Topsfield Fair in Topsfield Mass. I mentioned in Richards post of the hat and tee shirt from Waylons outdoor concert that I bought and wanted to post pics of them. The tee shirt has been wore twice and the hat 2 or 3 times. FYI the Native American name of Webster lake is Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagunamaugg. It is the longest name of any Geographic feature in the United States. Waylon was a busy boy doing all those concerts in one year listed on the back side of the tee shirt. Thanks Again Richard . 1 1
953 nut 57,586 #2 Posted February 5 The first and most memorable concert I ever went to was a Beach Boys event in Atlanta in the late 1960s. I was stationed at the Charleston, SC, Navy Base and we were offered discount tickets (first come first served) and the base NCO club arranged for round trip bus transportation. We had to be in uniform and sit as a group which was a bit uncomfortable because of the antiwar protests that were common at the time . We stood out from the crowd and much to our delight the Beach Boys dedicated "Sloop John B" to the group of sailors and gave us a salute. My second one was Chicago while they were CTA. I hadn't heard of them but my then girlfriend got a couple of tickets and I was hooked on them from that time on. Had the good fortune to see Willy Nelson at the Grand Old Opry in the mid 1980s. I bought tickets well in advance of a vacation in Nashville and as it turned out I hit the jackpot. I have returned to Opry a couple of times since and must say the put on one heck of a good show even if there isn't a headliner performing. Richie Valens died before he had a chance to realize his potential, I wish I could have seen him perform. 2

Sparky-(Admin) 21,927 #5 Posted February 5 Just saw Ace Frehley (KISS) this past weekend. He’s 74 year old… Slaughter was the opening band, I’m not a fan. Ace and his guys were great.

Handy Don 13,267 #8 Posted February 6 Wow indeed, @wallfish! I’ve been to exactly TWO in-person concerts--Peter, Paul, and Mary at a fairly small venue in Stamford, CT, and Simon & Garfunkel at Madison Square Garden in NYC. I was invited to join a couple of friends going to Woodstock the summer after my HS senior year. Not being that into music, I didn’t think I’d enjoy it and declined. Still don’t know if that was a good or bad decision! 2

EB-80/8inPA 1,784 #10 Posted February 6 Of the numerous concerts I’ve been to, Jethro Tull in the Boston Garden back in the ‘70s was definitely the loudest. My ears were ringing for days afterwards.

Beap52 1,142 #12 Posted February 6 Haven't been to very many concerts. Beach Boys in the mid '80's. Platters came to the Philippines in the '90's and we had really good seats for that one. A few years ago the Beach Boys again but several younger guys and not quite the same as the first one. Years ago I used to go to bluegrass festivals. The best time was had away from the stage out around the campers where just pure acoustic bluegrass was played. Every Friday at a campground way down in southwest Missouri a local bluegrass band is featured--can be good or mediocre--but still better than I can play. I haven't thought of several of the bands mentioned in the thread in many a year.

tunahead72 2,515 #14 Posted February 7 I have a Word document on my laptop named "Concerts Attended", which lists as many of the various concerts and shows I can remember attending over my lifetime. I just counted, there's over 160 shows listed in that document -- so THAT's where all that money went! I have some great memories from those shows, most of which I can actually recall on a regular basis. It helps that I have a wife and one especially good friend who can help me fill in the details when I need them, although I know for a fact that I can't completely trust THEIR memories either. Lately I'm quite happy to attend just a couple of shows a year, almost always in small venues, mostly small local restored theaters (I have no interest in large crowds any more). I wanted to attend Woodstock in the worst way... I was 16 at the time, heavily into the Jefferson Airplane (still am) and badly wanted to see them play live, but cooler heads prevailed and I wasn't allowed to go. In retrospect, I'm almost certain it was for the best.
oliver2-44 10,274 #15 Posted February 7 The only top name concert I’ve been to in a big venue was ClintBlack at the Austin/UT stadium. Back in our younger days we went to a lot of dances at VFW, Knights of Columbus, County Fair Hall etc. These featured local/regional bands and a lot of them were very good. 1
JCM 9,993 #16 Posted February 7 Two of my favorite songs , White Rabbit and Somebody to Love by Jefferson Airplane. Grace Slick was special. My brother in law was at Woodstock and is proud of his ticket stub he still has as proof he was there. He drove from Eastern Ma to Max Yasgur's farm all alone in an early Triumph spitfire. He was in one of the Woodstock movies crossing a road and always made sure we didn't miss him. We had to watch closely, if we blinked , we missed him . Thanks @tunahead72 2
WHX?? 50,563 #17 Posted February 7 Lots of them at the Hartford Civic center when I lived in CT. All the big names in the early 80's ... Kansas, Rush, Van Halen, Ted Nugent, The Outlaws. 11 hours ago, tunahead72 said: small venues, Yep them was the best... Flying Dutchman in Charleston SC ... we knew where all the great places were all up and down the east coast. Given the time we had in off crew on the sub we hit em all.
c-series don 9,381 #18 Posted February 8 Okay @JCM Jim I had to go deep into my tee shirt drawers to dig this baby out from a concert I went to in 1987! During the search I couldn’t believe how many Wheel Horse Collectors Club shirts I have collected over the years!!! Anyway I’ve been to my share of concerts as well. Springsteen, John Mellencamp, and Tom Petty all of which I’ve seen several times. The Who at Giants stadium. The Doobie Brothers and Foreigner. The “King” George Strait. Bob Seger. I saw follow Long Islander Billy Joel at my high school! Yes! Back in the mid nineties. It was called a Night of Questions and Answers with a Little Bit of Music. Just him and his piano playing songs and taking questions from the audience, it was very cool. He lives about fifteen minutes from me now, and right around the corner from the late Jimmy Buffet. That’s when I learned the term Real Estate Novelist is just something that he made up in his song “The Piano Man”! I also remember one of times I saw Tom Petty at my local college and he was so F’ed up that he could barely sing!!! People were booing and actually leaving! Looking back I guess I am fortunate to have seen all these concerts and hopefully get to see a few more. 1

Power Biggs Peter Pual and Mary - but Mary was sick, so it was only Peter and Pual Statler Brothers Tony Orlando and Dawn with the Smuthers Brothers as an opening act - really went to that one to see the Smuthers Brothers. Celtic Thunder several times - my wife and I are in one of their videos for a few frames as the camera swept the audience. Larry the Cable Guy Rolling Stones - sort of, we were working a consession stand as a fundraiser for a church youth group at the Michigan State University football stadium. I was a counselor for the youth group. Was easy to get the kid's parents to volunteer for that event. My oldest sister saw the Dave Clark 5.
