[Retired Wrencher 5,572]

 

Some of you may remember this tractor being a 1056? It was in bad shape when I picked it up. But slowly working on it. The steering wheel was busted clean by P O. So thanks to @JimSraj for the s/wheel and Mike’s horse barn for the Shaft. Now I have something to steer by. Also engine runs real rich buy the black soot. I did the points two carbs also adjusted these carbs with the same result. I am going to take the head off to see how the valves are doing. Any info on this is welcome.

Mike that is the way I bought from Jim Saraj. He said what happen to it before I bought it. This 1056 is no show queen. Just my winter plow tractor if I can get to run right. Bad black soot And I di try two carbs on it. Runs better in warm weather.

Not that I can see Eric. I am taking the head off and also the valves out to check the hole combustion chamber.

Good to see that steering wheel back in use!  
Whatever chewed up that steering wheel did it before I owed it. It came off of a roller I bought, through Handy Don, for the transmission. It had been sitting around the barn taking up space as a parts tractor for over a year so I finally got around to disassembling it. Still quite a few parts left if anyone needs 1267 parts check out my post in classifieds.

If I have any spare 3 spokes, I’d rather trade you and keep that thing all ratty, than see it sanded down.

This is a little up date. I send all my carbs to Eric in Maine because I have small part dropsies. So I was talking him to day he seems to remember this cab was border line useable. I am going to lap the valves wile it is apart. Who know when if ever they where done being 59 years of service. Here is a couple picks.

Yepp.  

That one has a well worn throttle shaft so even the replacement bushing didn't solve it.  

 

I'll be looking forward to seeing what solves the carbon buildup.

I ‘bout had big part dropsies a while back, helping Jada swap transfer cases in her truck.  I couldn’t get the splines to line up, but couldn’t find a way to support the case.  I laid it on my head for a bit, to rest my arms.  Then my arms and head all hurt for a few days.

New bushing went in OK. The shaft is worn some too.

@Retired Wrencher If you haven't pulled the valves yet, try this little test before and after to see it you made some improvement.  

With both valves closed fill the little cavity around the valve head with a lite fluid like penetrating oil.  See how low it takes to leak through the valve seat. 

Also measure the valve stem where it passes through the valve guide and down lower to see how much wear there is.  A worn valve stem can cause a valve to never seat well.

The Kohler manual list  the intake should be 0.3105 to 0.3110 and the exhaust as 0.3084 to 0.3091.  While the valve guides may also have some wear, replacing a valve with a worn stem is easy and can at least reduce half the wear.

Wow Kevin! Reminds me of my days wrenching old cars and my truck I had at one time. I do not miss it. I bought a Ford Transit van in 2021 it only has 11 500 on it so I guess I good for a while. Enjoy your day.

You never know Mike. It was not the best shape when I bought it.
