This is similar to my childcare axiom -- “There is pretty much NO good reason to wake up a sleeping baby" Except for situations where you know the stress will exceed a grade 3 or 5, an 8 is serious overkill (similar to replacing 16ga tractor wiring with 12ga). More is not necessarily better. 5 hours ago, ri702bill said: And don't forget the Metric sized washers too..... Wondering where on a WH you have found a metric anything except for a couple of the mower decks? 1 hour ago, kpinnc said: My thoughts on the original question was Tractor Supply sells fasteners by the pound. I Not at the ones within 25 miles of me. It’s all Hillman drawers and pre-packaged in little plastic bags. For example, a single 1/4 x 1-½” clevis pin? $3.99. Go to 5/16 and it’s $4.99! Jungle site assortment of 60 grade 3’s? $15 Actually had a pleasant chat with the Hillman rep for this district; she was restocking a Lowes. She covers more than a dozen store locations, usually visiting each at least twice per week. Liked her job, which was nice to hear. Asked her which store had the largest selection. “This one, actually” was her reply. I was at an estate sale a few weeks back. The deceased had run a small auto repair business out of his two-car garage. On one wall was an array of bins with various screws, bolt, nuts, etc. Watched a fellow buy it for $100, as is. (I came away with a nice adjustable mechanic’s rolling stool, some tarps, a short stepladder, and a stainless steel Indian Pump backback sprayer.) If I go with new hardware I'll throw all the old fasteners in a ice crème buck for possible use later on a petina project. I don't think grade 5s are necessary but i do use them on the frame to tranny point. 19 hours ago, pfrederi said: live a long way from the hardware store I'll second that and on the cost thing more than once has the clerk at Ace commented on what an expensive little bag of stainless hardware is.. Lets not forget about McMaster Carr for hardware. Especially for weird ones they have it all.

peter lena 8,957 #32 Posted Saturday at 01:25 PM @Handy Don good reference ! often refer to , linkage / lever movement , swing points , shoulder bolts are perfect for that area , why ? once you use a shoulder bolt , you ELIMINATE BINDING RELATED TO ATTATCHMENT ! that original plow set up , is a contradiction to movement ! as I was sitting on my roller stool , setting up my first , plow detailing , became very evident , that a tightened bolt only added to the typical dragging movement point . shoulder bolt , washers ,for exact smooth swing point , trap that movement ease with an ELASTIC LOK NUT , grease the swing point , test / verify as you go , should be solid / very smooth . this is hiding in plane site, this also lets you snug up related wire pull , start points , top squeeze lever , should have , ZERO PLAY IN IT , thats what starts the quadrant spring compression , slide release , my plows swing with ridiculous ease , that shoulder bolt smooth swing area / grease , is vital for function , thats a commonality to all related , horse , movement areas , just a little help , pete
