S416-8 342 #1 Posted January 30 I just picked up a 1973 D-180 tractor. Been wanting one of these since I saw one at the show a few years back. Now comes the fun in getting it running. First thing I found is that both the key swicth and the plug that goes into the back is coroded to the pint that it is falling apart. First parts needed so off to the search.. Overall after sitting for years in a barn it needs a hell of a bath but it seems solid. there is little ruat anywhere so great starting point. Found a plow alread adn reached out to the guy with the 3-point here with "I'll take it" and last will hope to find a grader blade. 5
OutdoorEnvy 1,679 #2 Posted January 30 Nice find! That looks pretty original and altogether which is a great starting point! My friend picked up a D200 a couple years back and is slowly working on it but it's been fun to help on. I like the looks of these. Kind of a transformer look to the front with the big headlights. Some like, some don't. I do. Looking forward to seeing your progress!
S416-8 342 #3 Posted January 30 I love the look.. kinda of has a "go ahead step in front of me and I will eat you" look
artfull dodger 440 #4 Posted January 30 Very nice, another new 18 Automatic owner, what became the D180 in 1974. I just got one myself, with the 3pt and rear pto. Now I need to find the mower deck and front mule drive so I can mow in a couple months
pfrederi 18,102 #5 Posted January 30 (edited) Good Luck... get it running and test the hydro before you invest a lot in attachments. It is fixable but D series are not the easiest WH to work on especially the hydro pump. But several of us have done it and can help talk you through it. it is a simple battery points ignition get some juice to the coil and the starter and fire her up... not to worry about switches and wiring yet Edited January 30 by pfrederi
S416-8 342 #6 Posted January 30 (edited) Thanks. Right now I’m replacing the key switch and plug so I can try to power it up. Haven’t looked to see if the switch could be bypassed and rig something straight to the battery. The only reason I am grabbing the plow this early is that I found one not that far away for $135 in really good condition.. Since this has points you can run a alligator clip jumper wire from the battery to the coil.(don't leave this on long if not cranking or running it can overheat your coil) If your jumper wires are the really thin ones use 2. (I bought a slight heavier set of alligator jumpers #16 I think, and sure have used them a lot trouble shooting things.) Then jumper across the starter solenoid to get it to crank.
