Digital Tachometer - 1P2R?

Recommended Posts

Here's some engine info

Two different brand tachs, both set to 1 spark per revolution and they both read correctly now.

I found my idle was actually low once I got them reading properly (I find I often get incorrect readings if I don't place it just right on the spark plug boot or wire). My idle was about 1050 rpm. I increased to 1300 rpm. Like a higher idle in case I do drop the throttle too low.

High RPM was jumping a lot on my tachs but seemed to be around 3300 rpm.

Can't address your tac readings but that engine is as Squonk said above. ( I do know that digital multimeters frequently give flaky readings on Kohlers  something about the electric aurora)

I use the infrared tacks  and my favorite is this one.  Can't beat mechanical

Yes you just press it against the end of the crank shaft or the PTO shaft

Yep. I got one here I'd bought off fleeebay not knowing exactly what it was.

Neat piece.

Handy Don

I am sometimes eccentrically frugal. I’m still happily using a free optical tachometer app on my phone. More than adequate for small engine tuning and the optical lessens the temptation to put body parts in close proximity to moving engine parts.
