S416-8 342 #1 Posted January 25 I just bought a D180 at an acution. It is a barn find that hasn't run in some time. I also have 2 520H's and wanted to pose a question.. if you were given the choice which would have the 520 or the 180 ?? Never owned a D so looking for some insights. Thanks
kpinnc 12,976 #2 Posted January 25 While the D is bigger, none of the attachments will interchange with your 520-H tractors. But many of the older machines all the way back to early 70s C series will. Your D series does have the option of a 3 point hitch, and a rear PTO if you can find it. The transmission has a different layout from the C series of the time, but does have some common components. The only weak point on the D series is that the rear axles are very long and unsupported past the transmission. As a result they will snap easier if you overload them. Of course unless you add duals or a backhoe you will likely be fine.
S416-8 342 #3 Posted January 26 Gm and thanks.. my reason for the 3-point would be for a backblade.. the only options I would be looking for is a plow, 3-point and blade.. not sure if they had a grader for it
Lee1977 6,898 #4 Posted January 26 The D's were made from 1974 to 1981 not near as many as the the No Name, C's 300, 400, and 500 made from 1973 to 2007 that use a lot of the same parts. So parts for the D will be harder to find.
artfull dodger 440 #5 Posted January 30 actualy 73 was the first year for a D style with the 18 Automatic(D180). But I believe they did update a few things for the 1974 model year over the 73 models.
