Beap52 1,146 #1 Posted January 21 In November I called my internet service provider and was told I would be given a five dollar a month discount. I called today because the discount never showed up on our past two bills. Finally after I was passed to the third lady, (who had good English by the way) She was able to help me. Apparently she had access to the confirmation number that provided me the discount (that was given to me in November) that the other two didn't. I was told if I go paperless I could save two dollars a month--once I registered to the company's site. I asked the nice lady what a "unregulated administration fee" was. She had to look it up on her computer and read me something about protections, some other things and that it provided discounts. I said "So that is a payment for my modem and insurance if it is damaged?" She told me I own the modem. I asked about the discounts. Bottom line is that in order to avail of the discounts, I need to call and ask for them. The fee that I pay $13.99 per month for are only accessible if I call every year and ask for the discounts. I likewise asked the difference between "regulated" and "unregulated" fee . If I understood her, there is no such thing as a "regulated administration fee". It doesn't make sense to me how modern businesses operate.

Also reminds me of the heating oil supplier that I terminated. I was a long time customer of Shipley Humble Oil and actually worked for them managing one of their ESSO service stations back in the day. After paying my large oil bill, I saw an ad in the paper where new customers were offered a much lower price than what I had just paid. When I called and complained, I was told there is a reduced price available, but you must call and request the lower price. I made the request, got a refund, cashed the check, and found a new supplier. 3

Routine game for these companies... They ought to be rewarding long time customers instead of fleecing them... Comcast is gone from my house for that and many other reasons...

They've been okay so far, but only because they kept some of the service techs from the small family-owned business that we worked with for 30+ years. The techs complain that Shipley is restricting what they can do for us on a service call or burner cleaning, and I believe them. I figure it's just a matter of time before I start looking for another supplier and service company. Trash companies and pest control companies do the same thing around here, new customers get much better deals. What a pain in the arse. 18 hours ago, SylvanLakeWH said: Routine game for these companies... They ought to be rewarding long time customers instead of fleecing them... Agreed.
