Wet sanding is a pain and time consuming but essential for a good finish.  We often talk about a faster way to do it but there is none other than using our amigo Manuel.

Goes a lot faster with two guys going at it and would go faster if @Pullstart didn't keep texting pics of his scores of the day ...

Time change today!! What kind of moron thinks that you can cut 6" of the top of a blanket, sew it to the bottom of the blanket and think that you end up with a longer blanket???  :twocents-twocents:

Any way...Got up this morning and moved all my freshly painted parts into the house. Not sure why, spose to be 50's & 60's for temps all week. But it makes me feel better.:D

With all the parts safe & warm in the house, I moved on to a little assembly. The remainder of todays adventures turned to getting the engine back together. Managed to get a good share of it put together.

Depending on my work , ( blankety blanks think I need to be there on a Saturday)  I hope to show a lot of assembly progress next weekend.:handgestures-fingerscrossed:

Another fun job was installing all new shaft seals in the tranny. This job is so much easier to do when the transmission is completely torn down.

Because?

You install the seals in the empty case then run the shafts through?

Digging the old seals out is no picnic for one. Yes, if I have the tranny apart I install the seals before inserting the shafts.

Made me mash my dang fingers when the case halves dropped. New seals are tight!

...I said dirty words. Very loud and many!

Your tractor looks outstanding!

He didn't split it.

I always just take the input seal and flatten it with a hammer ... There got that out of the way. :D

Jim stopped by today to make sure I was doing a good job, keep the Capt'n glass iced and full, and lend a hand with more curds where needed.

Fixed it for ya... :handgestures-thumbupright:

Jim stopped by today in a supervisory capacity.

There cleared that up ...

The gas tank was somewhat of a dilemma. Use a gasket prep product or not.

A quick call to Lowell indicated Permatex Aviation No 3 should be used. A trip to a hardware & auto parts store we came up empty handed short of a B & E on a closed store.

After a melding of the great minds assembled and watching Dan fiddle with gasket and tank pieces for a hour it was concluded that the Ponds didn't use No 3 We didn't have to either.

In githerdone mode it went together with (hopefully) no leaks.

A 8-32 machine screw was used in place of a stock screw for ease of getting a mounting bolt in.  Stainless of course... does this mean it's a custom???

It was a furious pace... some more action shots. :)

Yep the more i look at it the more I like those shoes. The rears really make it & you just don't see them often. Now you know why they didn't go to Pullstarts. Very possible a sure death there ...

The tractor ever goes down the road those tires DO NOT go with it!

I did't really like the choice of fronts  ... too old school for a '63 but it really comes together nice.

Raining & snowing today so I turned my attention away from the tree mess in my yard and moved back to my tractor. Ran into a snag when I was putting the PTO parts together. When I originally grabbed the parts for it, the linkage that attaches the peddle to pulley arm was pinned on with every thing else. This linkage had an offset to it. I scratched my head several times and tried to fit it several way but it just was not going to work. Getting frustrated, I decide to take a look at my 854 to see what it had for linkage. The 854 had a strait linkage. Well the 854 didn't need the linkage for now so I removed it, cleaned it up and used it for this project.

A pic of the 2 linkages. Any one know what model used the off set linkage??

IMG_20250323_144801199.jpg.e1e565e3c0b6a0952617c9df41af6ebe.jpg

Kept at it and made some pretty progress today. Decals are ordered and I will need them to continue any further. Starting to look like a tractor again though.

Will be no work on this baby next weekend, as I will be going to @Pullstart's to roll some dirt.:)

I needed that offset linkage on my 1075 and 875 hydros.
