Morse code is a method of telecommunication used to encode messages in a sequence called dashes and dots — or dits and dahs — which sound like clicks. There is an International Morse Code, based on the basic Latin alphabet with extra Latin letters, Arabic numerals, and punctuation. Each character in International Morse Code is represented by a unique sequence of dots and dashes. 953 nut 56,377 #3 Posted January 11 When I enlisted in the Navy they had a series of tests to determine what path you might be able to follow. One of the tests was on Mores Code. They played a recording with three letters of the alphabet in Mores Code and as you heard a letter you were to mark that letter on the test sheet. I knew next to nothing about Morse Code but I do know a bit about passing a multiple choice test. I memorized one of the three letters and each time I heard it I marked it down skipping all of the others. When the recording was finished I chose another letter and marked it for all of the ones I had skipped. sscotsman 171 #9 Posted January 12 (edited) My Dad was a signalman in the US Navy, 1959 to 1963, He served on the USS Fort Mandan. He appears in the movie "The longest day"! (a 1962 movie about Pearl Harbor) You can't physically see him in person, but you can see his flashing Morse code lights on a ship off on the horizon! (Dad passed away in 2009, but he was always proud of his service, and he always kept-up his knowledge of Morse code! he taught it to me when I was in Boy Scouts in the 80's.)
