Sparky-(Admin) 21,493 #1 Posted Sunday at 10:35 PM Picked up a 520-8 today, no motor, needs a lot of love. But should be a fun project. Not a fan of the Onan so it won’t be getting one of those. I do have a nice running Mag 10 and some fat AG’s that will eventually end up on it. When the weather is more favorable here I’ll get into it and start a thread in the projects section. But for now it can wait. 11
AlexR 759 #2 Posted Sunday at 10:40 PM Definitely sounds like a great project. Would be cool to get a V twin in there, but totally understand using what you already have. 2

JCM 9,530 #5 Posted Sunday at 11:23 PM Had a conversation a few months ago with Leo my WH dealer that was here at one of the M & G and asked about how many 520-8 he sold. It was only 2 that he ordered and 18 520-H. The 417-8 was one of his favorites and ordered 3 trailer loads of those. And the list goes on. He is still in business and I think with be 89 this year. Still goes to work every day. 4 1
c-series don 9,013 #6 Posted yesterday at 12:01 AM Maybe it’s just me but I’m sceptical when I hear that there was only 250 of those made. I could be wrong with the number 250 but it’s supposed to be some very low number. However over the years I’ve seen quite a few 520-8’s. Certainly way more of them than the 420-LSE of which 200 were made. One thing I could never figure out was why they made that bad ass tractor and it has a manual lift? I really think it should have come with an electric lift like the 418-8.

Even at the WH Show in June I swear there’s a bunch of em in attendance
Sodaking27 841 #8 Posted yesterday at 12:48 AM I had one of the 520-8 in my stable for a while. I too question the 2XX claimed to be made. I’ve seen quite a few. 3
c-series don 9,013 #9 Posted yesterday at 01:11 AM Okay, so since we all seem to be in agreement on this, I believe it’s high time we track down this person or people and punish them accordingly for spreading “fake news” 🤣🤣

But if it is, 520-8 tractors have dang near all (95% or more) survived over the years. There were some very common models sold during the same general period of time. Seems like the 312 models were extremely popular. The "L" models Lawn Rangers were another popular model from an earlier period. I will just say if only 200 were made, we've seen every one of them! 2

Thanks Gary, needs to temps to come up so I can degrease it and power wash it all before tearing into it. Might do some mock-ups with the engine, just for fun. Check out clearances and see how throttle/choke cables will route
Moparfanforever 866 #15 Posted yesterday at 01:53 PM Nothing to it except to just do it!! Easy Peezy!! Just a few tips on what I did as far as throttle/choke cables. The throttle cable on the 520h worked just fine. There is a thin metal plate that I guess acts like throttle stop on the handle that I cut a slot in it with a dremel for more travel. I was to lazy to to unbolt it and take it off. I took a throttle cable off of a 314H and used it for the choke cable. It is just a tad long, but I clamped it to the frame and it works perfect. Your results may vary!! Good luck!! 2 1

peter lena 8,824 #17 Posted yesterday at 02:17 PM meadowfield ?@Sparky nice project ! also like the v twin idea , also not a ONAN fan , see more issues than dependability , that bare frame shot , makes me think of the OPPORTUNITY to correct issues , possibly change existing trouble spots . like the idea of a chain drive steering gear chain set up . meadowfield ? eliminate the fan gear set up , also look at the opportunity to lay in a frame protected , 5/16 steel brake line , for new main fuel line supply , only having clear vinyl at fuel tank / carb areas , ( eliminate fuel hose break down debris ) , regularly add a WHAT IF ? to an opportunity , have changes , paint matched to red / black , you would never know , good luck with it , pete
