8 speed transmission on D series

Hey guys,would a 8 speed transmission fit on a D series? Seems I heard someone doing that but can’t find it anywhere. Just wondering if it would bolt up to it and how much modification it would take and how it worked out for them.Thanks

Bolts might align....that would be about the only thing that didn't require a lot of effort.  You would need some kind of right angle gear box....Figure out how to rig up an idler and set up a clutch linkage for it.  not sure where the gear shift would come up.  Brakes being a nice thing to have would require a lot of jury rigging.  That is just what I thought of i a coul miinutes...I am sure there would be other issues.  D frames are wider that C series...

 

Anything is possible with time talent and money...do not see this is a good thing to waste the time talent and money on.

Might actually be easier to go with a 3 speed from a Cub Cadet. Would line up with the direction of the engine in a D better. But if you are customizing, anything is possible.

Perhaps the "D" modification you saw was the one @19richie66 was doing with an Eaton 1100 and a totally different drivetrain.

I guess if you are good at fabrication you could turn the engine sideways, weld a mounting plate to the rear of the frame to bolt the 8 speed to and fabricate a clutch. If you decide to do this

Thanks I think it would be a lot more trouble than I thought. I wish they would have made one of the D series with four or eight speed .

Doubt it was mine. If any transmission would work in a D series, I would think that an XI series hydro would be awesome. Could be done as it is shaft drive. Other than the cub mentioned, I’m drawing a blank.
