Check your local rules. Our club does not allow the velocity stack adaptor ring in "stock" class. We can run that type of air filter but it has to be adapted to a stock backing plate.

Double check the top of the piston. I can't quite read it.

Does it read "STD" ?

@Achto how did you build your cover over your drive pulley on your tractor you called 2024 project

My 2024 project ended up getting named "Horse Apples", mainly because it was built on the cheap with parts and materials that I had laying around. AKA, a bunch of Horse crap thrown together. The rear fender sports a decal that says "Built with poor decisions and no money"

As far as the front cover,  (our club rules state no exposed belt). Started with a flat piece of 16ga sheet metal, did a little cuttin', a little bendin', a little weldin', drilled some holes and bam!! One cover. The whole thing was measured with a micrometer, marked with chalk, and cut with an axe. :D Sorry didn't document any dimensions.

I see STD on the piston, this would indicate standers bore.

Boring the cylinder .030 over will gain your a little power, very little though.

Do you know the technical reason for that?

Do they make a HP difference?

Our club has the same rule. I don’t really know the technical reason. But I do think they gain a bit of power depending on how long the velocity stack is. For example on Super stocks some are over 10” long.

No stock -modified

Not sure what you club considers modified. In my club if your not moving 15+mph in mod class, your not going to compete. How do you achieve 15mph ground speed while pulling? Easy - throw money at your tractor. HP = $

Here is a lot of reading for you on Garden tractor pulling.

https://gardentractorpullingtips.com/index.htm

For tires, If you are going to pull in a Mod or Improved class I would suggest going to a pulling tire instead of an ag tire. Something on this line.

https://vogelmanufacturing.com/vm10-tires-mounted-on-vm-wheels.html

Our club allows us to run this type of tire in the stock class but, our hitch height has to be dropped to 12". If you are running ags like I have on Horse Apples (26x12x12 Firestones), then they allowed a 13" hitch height.

Horse Apples pulls in stock class. A good "stock" Kohler engine in our club will have the head shaved, but there must be a visible line where the gasket surface is. A cam shaft from a 18hp OHV K361, very hard to find usually around $350 if you find one. You can also send your cam out to be welded & machined to the K361 spec for around $350ish. A good 12 angle valve job to ensure a good seal. A carb from a 16hp engine, max venturi 1.25". No porting or polishing allowed. Max over bore of .030". Over boring does give a minute HP gain, nothing that you will feel in the seat though.

Not trying to sway any decisions on what class to run. Mods are very cool !!! Just saying dig into your rules so that you have the knowledge to compete.

There is some gain there. The whole funnel effect over abrupt change. Still running a bone stock air cleaner with a K&N filter on mine.

I quoted this because it bears repeating.

Get the rules for the next season IN WRITING.

Do your build with a full understanding of what you have vs what you want and make ALL the changes as a whole.

I can show pics with the difference between the Kohler hood and Tecumseh hood tomorrow.

The Tecumseh is an OHV160.

Over Head Valve.

Much taller engine than the Kohler.

The hood hinge is maybe 1.5" taller.

@Easton Rich

Here's 4 pics of hood hinges.

Top two are Kohler K341 Powered.

Numbers 3 and 4 are from OHV160 Tecumseh engine tractors.

Note the extra height of the Tecumseh hinges.

What wheel are you running to have those tires on?

My rims have a 4 / 8 offset, can be mounted either way. Mine are mounted with the 4" offset to the inside. I do have to run a 3/8" spacer behind them, only because the center hole on the rim is smaller than center on the hub. This will be typical of most aluminum rims. They will also have 1/2" mounting holes with no taper. Mine are mounted with regular 7/16" grade 8 bolts & washers.
