Bill D 1,985 #1 Posted December 31, 2024 Came home from work around 2:30 this morning. After coming inside I realized I left my phone in the car. I open the garage door take two steps out the door and hear the most terrifying screams. Nearly had a heart attack. I realized I have a barn owl in the neighborhood. 2

We had those at the Meet n Greet in N Berwick this past fall. @JCM Didn't phase Trina and I in the least because we spend so much time Outdoors but they sure do sound fairly close to scary. Fisher is another one. Those make a similar kind of scream but on the ground.
Bill D 1,985 #3 Posted December 31, 2024 Just listened to a Fisher scream. I could've been that too. Either way, scary at 2:30 in the morning.

Usually a fisher is a ground dweller, but they can and will climb trees 🌳 Same on the inverse for a barn owl.

Talk about fruitless--it’d take extraordinary luck for that diligent pooch to actually catch a bat!

He does make some extraordinary leaps, but we keep close watch in the unlikely event that he should contact one.
squonk 41,567 #11 Posted Wednesday at 09:08 PM My late pooch Bryant was a bird dog at heart. He would stand under our Magnolia trees and flush out the Tweety birds. We also had a bush that they would roost in. He would go out first thing in the morning and make a dead run to the bush. We used to joke that he was flushing out quail!
