Ha, praying somebody weighs in!

I'm not familiar with your model, but someone will be.  I'm not convinced the belt is installed correctly, but I could be wrong.

FWIW- I’ve used a couple

of the blue TSC belts now, and both shed blue dust at the block for the first couple hour’s run time. I believe it’s completely normal.

Oh man, where were you the last few days?!

Just kidding  that is super reassuring! Many others were telling me it wasn't normal. I'll keep an eye on it. Thank you for telling me this!

I have used them on I think three tractors now. 2 hydros (Bronco and Charger), and my son’s little 8-speed Ranger. All three had a little dust at the engine block. None had rusty or pitted pulleys either. None have had any additional issues once the belts ran a while. The Charger got the most run time, having now run two full seasons of leaf collection, which is like dog years at my FILs place. He picks up about 30 or so loads of leaves every year, so that belt probably has 50-75 hours on it now.  It’s doing fine.

Love to hear it! Thanks for giving me some peace of mind buddy!

Still going to try and remedy the belt rubbing the brake rod, since I see it now, but glad to know it's not what is causing the dust!

:text-yeahthat: I have quite a few tractors with the TSC Husky belts. They all shed a little blue dust until they wear in.

:text-yeahthat: The downside with TSC belts is sometimes they do require a little "blue shedding" to clutch proper.

Thanks guys! Makes me feel better about my situation.

Still going to try and remedy the brake rod rubbing though, even if that wasn't the cause for the dust!

First thing I'll do tonight (hopefully) is getting in there and making sure the connection on the other end of the rod is correct... Then I'm planning on filing down the brake rod to create some clearance and sanding that down smooth...

Fingers crossed!

Sounds like a good plan. If there’s anything you can do to shift that brake rod over your helping it.

:text-yeahthat: we use the TSC belts on all our pulling tractors. By the end of the pulling season the block and frame is covered in blue dust.

Damn, so glad to hear this is normal from you all! Lot of guys a few days ago telling me it was 100% abnormal, so glad to hear that isn't the case

Ugh... feel like an idiot. Going to make a post as this is somewhat unrelated, but I was looking over the parts diagrams and saw that the drive pulley on the engine had a set screw! Sweet, I should be able to just pull it out a hair and that would move the belt away from the brake rod.

Well, I take off the PTO and clutch assemblies and get to the pulley. Parts diagram says 1 set screw, but I found 2. Take out both. Pulley won't budge. I eventually took a pry by behind it and slowly tried to shift it off the crankshaft... I thought I was making progress and then saw I was bending the pulley V from the engine side... ugh!!

Looking at it from 45 degrees (as close as I could get my head in to the engine) I could see it was slightly bent. Freaking out, I took a piece of wood and a dead blow and put it into the V to bend the V back. Hit it a few blows, and it appeared straight again.... Straight enough at least that I turned the pulley a few times and forgot where I had bent it. I then ran the tractor for 10 minutes and she ran fine, then I watched it idle from the front and I couldn't see any bumping or inconsistency in the blur of the pulley spinning... My thought was that if the pulley was bent the "blur" of it moving at thousands of RPMs would look inconsistent, but I couldn't see anything. She seems to be running fine.

Think I am in the clear? Any issue with just running her? That's what I get for tinkering... Thanks guys.

The alignment does matter, With the belt cover and maybe the hood off the tractor, you should be able to sight the crank pulley-to-transaxle pulley alignment. That is what counts. The brake rod isn’t supposed to rub, of course, but if the alignment is good, then the issue is why is the rod out of place?
