Blown Belt

Recommended Posts

tmurf

I am new to this forum and have a couple issues that I hope y'all can help me with -

I was using my C-161 with my empty (at the time) trailer and pressed the clutch, and the clutch pulled in and the belt shredded.

Now I need a new belt but tried searching this forum but can't find a good source with an answer that gives me the confidence to order it.

I ordered one through the local Gravely dealer and it's too big.

Secondly, she has sat for a while (summer of 22) and when I tried to give here a run, she cranks but won't turn over. I do smell gas at the carb but not any spark, so it hasn't turned over once. Starter fluid doesn't do anything either. What should be my next thing to troubleshoot?

Thanks,

Download this file and see if it helps you. You'll need to know your model number. Or at a minimum, the year of your tractor.

Chart Belts Tractor drive 1956-1999 15 pages #492-0392.pdf - Misc. Items - RedSquare Wheel Horse Forum

Once you have a model number, do a search on here and download the manuals for the tractor and the engine. The engine service manual should help you track down the no spark issues. Or (most likely) one of the resident experts may chime in with some tips.

Transmission drive belt 78-7100 replaced by 7473 - HB x 81.9" or 5/8" x 81.9"

A 5/8" x 82" belt will work.

gwest is right about the belt.  i always keep an extra 7473 in stock in my garage for the 8 speeds.  and a 7478 for the hydro's

pull off the points cover and check the condition of the points.  may have to file them or replace them.  possibly condenser and or coil could be bad as well

good luck

Many of us use the Tractor Supply Kevlar 5/8 X 82" belt with good results.

On the non start issue it is likely to be ignition related. If you have a multimeter or a test light you can see if voltage is getting to the ignition coil "+" side while the key is in the on position. If voltage is present there then follow the wire from the "-" side of the coil down to your ignition points, remove the cover and clean the contact surface of the points by passing a dollar bill or piece of a brown paper bag through the closed contacts. Do not use a file on points, that will shorten their life. Also, we do not recommend using ether starting fluid.

Having been in storage for a couple of years there nay be some little critters that have been nesting inside the flywheel cover, if something smell strange shut it down and investigate begore going any further.

Let us know what you find.
