matthewg84 3 #1 Posted December 10, 2024 Hey, I'm new to forums but we have e a wheelhorse 520H and have a tiller as well for it. We can get the tiller hooked up but can't figure out the bar or chain to hookup for the hydraulic lift. Does anyone have pictures of how to hook up the hydraulic lift to the tiller? Or what arms i need? Thanks
WHX?? 49,631 #2 Posted December 10, 2024 Best I can do is get you a manual. Not sure its the right year for yours but will be close. Need the model/year for the correct one 3314-767_1992_Tiller_36in.pdf
matthewg84 3 #3 Posted December 10, 2024 This mower is a 94. Model number is 73502. Some diagrams show a clevis hooked to a bar. This diagram shows a cable through a tube hooked to the bracket that raises the deck. Do we remove the trunnion and screw it on back of this cable?
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,159 #4 Posted December 10, 2024 Older parts lists do a good job of identifying what the lift arms do. There are two. One lifts up and down and the other forward and backwards. https://www.partstree.com/models/41-20oe01-520-h-toro-garden-tractor-1990/hydrostatic-lift-linkage-19/

It'd does appear that installing and removing the tiller will not be a weekly thing lol

Moving the tiller around can be the worst pain. As you might know they are not light. 12 hours ago, matthewg84 said: Do we remove the trunnion and screw it on back of this cable Yes after the cable is installed in the tube. Just guessing you have all the required parts? All too often these parts go missing over the years. This tractor is no longer set up for tilling duty but I can get you some decent pics of how the rear rock shaft goes.

The bell crank needed is different than the one on it now. Does that need swapped out each time when I switch from tiller to mower deck? It's for raising the deck

There should be two arms on it. The top one for the deck and the bottom for front and rear implements. Top one is tucked up underneath and almost have to lay under the tractor to see it. Yes, the existing one on it has two arms that are the same length that the trunnion is on. The one you are talking about, the arms are different angles and I need to buy that one. I'm trying to figure out how to post pictures.
WHX?? 49,631 #12 Posted December 10, 2024 Maybe this will help you out. From a 520 IPL. You should have one of those and a operators manual for 520s. If not we can get you one we have them here.

Part #7 in the diagram is the older style of mid-rock shaft with a single arm in both directions. Yours is the newer model with a double arm supporting the chain trunnion for upward lifting (for heavy mowers or mid-mount grader blades). Your lower arm will be as pictured. The cable that runs to the rear rock shaft (for lifting the tiller or other rear attachments) attaches to the lower arm of the mid-rock shaft using a long clevis & pin, runs through a tube under the hydro pump/motor, and comes out at the rear above the transaxle. Typically, it attaches to the rear rock shaft with another trunion. The tiller lift chain runs from that rear rock shaft to the tiller. The mid-rock shaft, cable, tube, and rear rock shaft all routinely stay in the tractor regardless of which implement is attached. Maybe. The most common lift setup is the cable, tube, rear rock shaft, tiller chain setup. This is described in the tiller owner manual with pictures and install instructions. SOME members skip the rear rock shaft and fashion a cable direct from the mid-rock shaft to the tiller. Pros: fewer parts. Cons: extra friction on transaxle, trickier cable length adjustment, harder to use for lifting a sleeve or slot hitch implement, extra cable hanging out when tiller is off. These folks tend to have an always-mounted tiller. ALL tractors have a factory-installed mid-rock shaft, either manual, hydraulic, or electrically powered. SOME tractors have a factory-installed tube for the rear lift cable (model- and year-dependent). If yours does (likely, as it’s a 520), you’ll find the exit for the tube at the rear (yellow arrow below). I don’t think ANY tractors had a factory installed rear rock shaft, including the connecting cable. These were a dealer- or owner-installed option. If you bought a titler from the dealer they would make sure you got it. If you do have the rock shaft, it’ll have an arm (to which the cable end would attach with a trunion) hanging down just to the rear of the cable tube exit. Likeliest in your situation is the tube is there and you need this kit from Wheel Horse Parts and More for the cable, clevises, bushings, and rock shaft. If you do not have the tube, you’ll need the kit that has the tube and clamp.
Moparfanforever 868 #16 Posted December 10, 2024 If your tube is already on the tractor and been on there awhile, I would blow some air thru it to see if dirt or grass is packed in it.

That link you sent for the kit i need said most hydro ones did not have the tube and most manual ones did. I'm having trouble even seeing how that tube works on yours. It looks like it goes straight through the transmission housing. Does it ho up and over or down and under? Thanks

No it sits right on top of the transmission and is held there by a clamp. Lowell calls it a conduit. https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/product/toro-wheel-horse-lift-cable-tube-and-bracket-conduit-tube-hydro-transmissions/ Sounds like your tractor never had a tiller attached?? I wouldn't go that route. I have one set up like that on a C-120 hydro and it's not the ticket. Tiller does not lift very high. Only way it can be done with no fender pan support. My 12 year old boy loves old tractors and my father in law gave him his 520H when they moved into town. My boy saved up his money and got a tiller for it. We got it hooked up once to see how hard it was. That's when we noticed his 520h didn't have any of the parts to hook the hydraulic lift up on it. So that's what I'm trying to piece together now. These manuals have been helpful along with everyone answering, thank you.

Like I said before there is a tractor out there with his parts on it yet. It happens all too often where parts get left on a tractor that should have went with the attachments. Any chance you can contact the PO of the tiller and see if you can get them? By chance did you happen to get the mid mount idler assembly? A very much needed part. While Lowell at Parts n More is a great guy to deal with gently used less expensive parts may be available thru other resources we have.
