CRF857 137 #1 Posted December 9, 2024 Acquired a well used snow blade. Decided to primp it a little before mounting. installed it on an Electro 12 that had been repowered with a kohler 16 hp. And cone clutch. Disassemled, cleaned primed and topcoated. Temp have been in the low 50s so parts got hung in shop bathroom with a heater going to help the drying process. Put it all back together today. 4
peter lena 9,085 #2 Posted December 9, 2024 @CRF857 what did you do ? thats how I set up mine for functional detailing ! use a couple of , milk crates and a roller stool , for every movement enhancements . that squeeze lever to steering quadrant spring mount is critical , for plow swing ease . noting lever squeeze TRIANGLE swing mount , hold that setting with a shorter bolt threading , allowing swing point on smooth bolt shaft , dial in perfect swing fit , and elastic lock to hold that smooth swing set , also use a small channel lock plyer , to tighten up wire end circle mount points , red aerosol grease, that steering quadrant compression spring , runs the entire set up , smooth solid , sounds like a rifle bolt . like a plow face lubrication soak down , for snow / release, like free horsepower ! we gotta talk ! heim jointed my heavy swing ends , lever to quadrant . swing ease is ridiculous , so simple / easy its stupid , talk to me , pete

Brockport Bill 1,822 #4 Posted December 10, 2024 i have rehabbed various plows - some in pretty ugly condition - cleaning/sanding or blasting off the rust -- then primer paint, then final red -- usually a new "wear edge" blade, plus new carriage bolts -- and typically rehab to the springs and rods - always a worthwhile project

Brockport Bill 1,822 #6 Posted December 10, 2024 2 hours ago, Bar Nuthin said: Any recommendation for one that's twisted? i try to avoid getting a plow that has any significant bend or deformity -- but i suppose heat and a hammer would maybe have some success? I suppose you could take it to a welder fabricator shop that maybe with heat and some press type tool could do some rehab realignment ?? As a side note i see the bottom of blade was so worn through the wear edge blade it actually wore up through the carriage bolt holes in the blade itself -- One plow i got had that problem and couldn't even hold the bolts so i took to fabricator and had him weld an extension piece on bottom of blade - then he did new holes for carriage bolts --- then i was able to install new wear edge bar over those holes in the extension - - you can see the weld marks in the photos i attached above on the one plow blade

When on a worker for working - Heat, hammer, drill new holes, use new wear bar to even it out, paint it and go... to a degree the top doesn't matter... it pushes snow, not diamonds...
