wiring to rectifier/regulator

while servicing my SIL's C161 i found these 3 wires just dangling in midair.  obviously they go to the regulator. which wire goes on what regulator terminal?  i do not want to hook it up wrong and fry the regulator.  is there a single plug i could get?

Your voltage regulator will have two side by side terminals marked AC that will connect to the engine wires and one terminal marked DC that will go up to the ignition switch.

If the connector are not good buy some Packard 56 connectors, NAPA or any GOOD auto parts store will stock therm.

Yes, might just add, it doesn't matter which AC wire goes on each terminal.

Item 26 is the 101476 original regulator connector but no longer available from Toro.

A least it gives you the original number to chaise down.

Looks like U2 is the one needed Kohler part number 237429-S but also no longer available.

I have used this four terminal block from Del City on a regulator, just leave the unused cell blank. Use the Packard 56 female terminals with it.

These may be at NAPA too.

There should be 2 white wires. They go to the terminals marked AC. The other wire goes to B+ (DC).

You can just skip the plug and crimp on  1/4 female spades & tie wrap up securely. 

I prefer full insulated ones for this method. 

Fully Insulated Female Slip-On Solderless Terminal, 16-14 AWG, Tab Size .25 (50-Pack)

 

While yer at it secure up that dangly fuel line ... don't want that getting snagged on something ... :angry-extinguishflame:

I am using single insulated female spades a lot.  easier to check than trying to back probe the multiplugs

i appreciate all the help. 

 

sooo... the red wire in the pic goes to the coil.  does that wire go to the B+ terminal on the regulator?

 

then the other 2 wires go to the AC terminals on the regulator  correct?   and it does not matter which wire to which terminal?   because it is AC?

Yep ... the two in the harness are the AC wires. Looks like you have enough to cut back to good wire. Yes does not matter which wire goes where as long as both are on the side by side AC posts. 

 

The red is the B+ and should end up back to the battery +. Often through a amp meter and/or the ignition switch. 

Not a bad idea to put a fuse on that one.

Hello  Mike ... I forget what these regs are rated at... 5 or10 amps so I would go small to start with.  5, 7.5 10 or 15 max. 

 

I use these type of holders here

 

I use alot of them ... would rather have blown fuses than ...

This drawing shows the systems used on any garden tractor. The components with the yellow wires are the charging system.
