ri702bill 8,550 #1 Posted December 2, 2024 Went Grocery shopping this morning right after 7AM when the Market opens. I knew I had less than 20 items, 18 to be exact, so I proceeded to one of the two open Express Checkouts. Instead of a courteous "Good Morning!", the Cashier gives me a snarky "That looks to be more than 20 items, go to a (the only) Regular Checkout." I assured her that it was less than 20 an started to unload the basket onto the belt. She made a huge point of tallying the item count on the receipt - 18 items!! I paid, then took the receipt and scanned down it, to her disapproval. I told her I was checking to make sure she did not double-ring any items!! All was fine, as I was leaving, I reminded her that during the entire time, BOTH Express Checkouts had only one Customer, not 6 deep. She huffed, so I nodded & winked, told her to "Have a super nice day". And I WAS being nice, because if she gave me any more grief, I was going to say, "You are someone's Ex-Wife, aren't you??" But I did not have to....... 2 6

Wayne0 539 #4 Posted December 2, 2024 I had the opposite issue. The lady in front of me at the 12 items or less checkout had at least 20 items. No one said a word.
ri702bill 8,550 #5 Posted December 2, 2024 Yup, seen that too. Honestly, it was that snarkiness of the Cashier's attitude that got me going. I normally do not go looking for a "sparring partner" before breakfast... 1

Mickwhitt 4,774 #7 Posted December 2, 2024 My local supermarket has a self scan system. You carry a gizmo with you and scan each item as you go. You put your shopping straight into your own shopping bags in your cart. Saves time and you know how much you really spending. But I wonder how many folk slip the odd item in without scanning to save a few pence. The car parking area drives me nuts though;.... Mother and baby area, disabled parking, electric car charging. All have cars parked in them where there are none of the supposed requirements. All to save a few seconds they inconvenience those who really need the spaces. As Maynard said, some people just think they are entitled more special than everyone else. Just seems there are more of em these days. 2

I get the disabled parking, and those who violate them are breaking the law, however I don't know why mothers with babies qualify for special parking. When we were young parents with babies I would have never thought I was entitled to special parking. But don't get me started with EV parking areas that are closer than all the rest? What makes them special? 1

There is a large Shopping Plaza near me that has the EV Charging Station Bank - 8 or so waaaaay out in the parking lot away from all other parking & structures. Insurance reasons??? I am sure that they have had their share of whining entitled "Karens" asking if they plan to implement a shuttle service!!! 2
rmaynard 15,675 #12 Posted December 2, 2024 We had a Safeway market that had two EV charging/parking spaces right in front of the main entrance. And what was worse, they were free. That was until people with gasoline powered vehicles kept going up to the service counter and asking for vouchers for free gas. The free charging ended quickly. I know this thread has taken a slight turn, but entitled is entitled and there is no place in my world for it. 1
Ed Kennell 38,937 #13 Posted December 2, 2024 Special spaces up front. Handicappers that jump out and run in, EV, mothers that are or plan to become pregnant, I'll add my gripe...six prime spaces for the employee of the month. Wouldn't that just require one space? 1

What makes them special? About mother and baby parking. I guess they provide it to encourage new mums to shop there, provided because tgey have a pram etc. . But I see families using them with zero need to. Recently our local council fitted a motorcycle barrier on a footpath because it was being used by idiots on road bikes as a short cut. The barrier stopped bikes but not pedestrians. Everyone was happy because there was no risk of them being hit by a motorcycle on the footpath. Everyone except a new mother who could not get her brand new, four wheel steer, carbon fibre, WiFi enabled, eco friendly child pushchair through the barrier. She complained to the council and threatened them under the disability discrimination laws if they didn't take the barrier down. (She could easily have taken the child out, collapsed the buggy and got through). Last time I checked being pregnant or having a child was not a disability. The council rolled over instead of growing a pair and now we have our motorcycle nuisance back. Let's hope she doesn't get hit by o e of them. 3
