Docwheelhorse 2,673 #1 Posted Saturday at 10:30 PM Evening all, hope your turkey day was good! Picked up yet another GT1100 Work Horse... love them Briggs!!! Yah yah... I know---more people like Tecumsehs even more than Briggs and thats saying something. Anyways---sonebody hung a 1960s 42 sd deck and drive assembly on it. Kinda cool and it looks to be in good shape. Interesting things you find done with these tractors Tony

kpinnc 12,174 #4 Posted Saturday at 11:17 PM I guess it makes sense sometimes to “use what you have”! I have swapped enough of those out for newer Tach-a-matics. Obviously they can be swapped both ways. Nice job saving another!
adsm08 2,103 #5 Posted Saturday at 11:17 PM I think I saw a similar setup on a 70s tractor being used to run a 60s gear-drive RD at the show this summer.

I personally dislike them... but thats because I myself cant seem to make them run. The Briggs I can... and while noisy and not as rugged or torqey as a Kohler I have a fondnesss for them that goes back to childhood. Comment was a sarcastic little jab at Tecumseh. I will say that the one thing the Tecumsehs cant be beat at is running and starting in the cold. The colder they are the happier they are.

Throttle assembly plate bolted to side of engine cracked and I took apart to fix and there it sits for now

I've had a few of the Tecumseh Snow King engines on snowblowers over the years. Good engines. Now I have the 1974 C160-8 Tecumseh Horse. I don't have a specific task for it yet so it's usually setting...for now. You go out there and kick the key 🔑 and that OHV160 absolutely LOVES to start right up. ✅️
ML3 1,236 #12 Posted Sunday at 06:00 PM I must admit the 6hp Tecumseh on my 654 starts easy & runs great. And.....I'm running a Chinese Amazon carb! Mowed all summer, plowed last winter & using it again this winter. It uses no oil & doesn't smoke.

Plenty of room with the longer frame. Simple and effective--elegant.

I can’t get a Tecchy to run for the life of me. If by chance it ran when I got it, it stopped soon after. I guess engine preferences are all based on what we get used to. Briggs, Kohler, Vanguard? I can work with those.

c-series don 8,737 #18 Posted 21 hours ago Maybe it’s just me, but since I was a kid having a few go-carts and mini-bikes with Tecumseh engines on them I always seemed to have trouble with them? I bought a log splitter with a Tecumseh on it and some days it would start right up and other days it didn’t want to start at all. After doing everything known to man to that engine only to have the same problems I switched it to a Honda and never looked back. That darn thing starts up every time. My pressure washer has a Honda on it and it too always starts up and runs great. I’m also a die hard Briggs fan because my Work Horse has thousands of hours on it and still runs fine!! I would like to find someone to rebuild it before something bad happens though. I’m not sure if parts are still available to do the job? Shipping it would probably cost as much as the rebuild!!!
dmoore 834 #19 Posted 4 hours ago (edited) Don, I have had simular experience with my 2005 Honda pressure washer. It can sit for a year, open the fuel valve, choke it and fires right up. Like most of our Wheel Horse tractors, having the fuel tank above the carburetor helps a lot as well. As a kid I remember the go-karts and mini bikes with Tecumseh engines on them they always had a problem the briggs kept rolling! I thought all of this was general knowledge🤔 Edited 4 hours ago by dmoore

The minibike was a Techy 4hp. All three were reliable.
