Nick009 2 #1 Posted November 29 So long story short I put a new drive belt on (5/8in x 81in) and now the clutch doesn’t do anything, it just rubs the top of the belt. I’m not sure if I installed it correctly or if it’s that little white switch that’s the problem. Here’s a video of the problem. 75461731481__9AA9B5E4-6F6D-459B-BB44-8E3377CDD4A1.MOV

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,090 #3 Posted November 30 Welcome to Red Square. Should it not be 5/8" x 82"? Post your model and serial number if you need help.
oliver2-44 9,847 #4 Posted November 30 The belt guard is an essential part of the clutching system. when you step on the clutch, the belt guard funnels the slack to the engine pulley, so it doesn't grab the belt. 1
Nick009 2 #5 Posted November 30 (edited) I just realized there is no sound in the video, sorry bout that. I didn’t know that the cover did more than just cover the belt and pulley. I will put it all back on tomorrow and see if that works then update. I bought this machine off the side of the road so I’m still learning about it. Ed Kennell 38,598 #6 Posted November 30 (edited) The idler pulley should move forward until the belt tab on the pulley locks the belt against the stationary tab. If the idler pulley is not moving when you depress the clutch, the i/8" roll pin that fixes the clutch lever to the crossover shaft may be sheared. The belt should be 5/8 X 82. Here is a video of a 310-8 with an 82" belt. to the Edited November 30 by Ed Kennell

Search the manuals section for your tractors manual. Here is a link to the 310-8 that I picked up,

The 82" belt should help and installing the belt guard will also help. Although as you can see in my video, my belt stops with the belt guard off. With the 82" belt, the idler will go back where the angled plate contacts the clutch damper cylinder. The adjustment details can be found in the manual.

FYI; the little white switch is your clutch switch and it allows the starter to operate when you push down on the clutch.
Alrashid2 286 #13 Posted Wednesday at 09:01 PM Unrelated to your issue @Nick009 but in your video it looked like your belt was touching the brake rod that connects to the brake pedal. Is that true? Just curious as I noticed on my 312-8 my belt rubs the brake rod and trying to figure out what's going on... PS I have the same blue belt, 82", and it works perfectly

I didn’t notice the belt rubbing on anything it’s not supposed to however it does run very close to things, enough so that it makes me nervous.
Alrashid2 286 #15 Posted Thursday at 01:21 PM I'm in the same boat haha, my belt is just barely touching my brake rod so I"m thinking of dremeling the side of it just 1/8" to give me a bit of clearance. I'm a worrier!
