No photo description available.                                                                             2023 Thanksgiving

Today was pumpkin pie prep day.     Those things are hard to peel.

We don't do thanksgiving over here, our next big shindig is Christmas itself.

Turkey is the traditional meat for that main meal and Brussels sprouts one of the traditional vegetables.

I will be making my fruit cakes over the weekend which are a great tradition over here, a dark, moist Christmas cake. Mum always made ours but since she passed I have taken on the mantle of cake Baker, following her recipe.

Have a wonderful thanksgiving holiday and don't eat too much.

Mick

Back row center.  Like his Dad...bald and wearing glasses, but a foot taller.    :)

Happy Thanksgiving, all.

We will have turkey sliders tomorrow afternoon with our youngest son.

Our traditional Thanksgiving meal will be on Saturday.  Just 5 of us.  Both of our sons and our oldest son's wife.  We've got a 12 lb turkey to roast in an outdoor reflector oven.  Of course all of the other trimmings will be included - stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberries, butternut squash, etc, etc., all cooked outside in our 20 acre wood.

Ed, have you ever cleaned and quartered a pumpkin, put it in the oven for a half hour at 250 and then spoon the softened pulp out?  Works well with any squash.

Not yet Richard, but  I will try it next time. as these arthritic hands are still paying the price for peeling and chunking those four raw neck pumpkins.

We were cooking our mashed potatoes and chocolate cream pie this morning and heard a strange noise in our stoves exhaust fan, and this is what we found!

I guess this squirrel was trying to join us, we've been here for 25 years and never had this happen before!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, even the squirrels!

@C-85   some heavy wire netting and tin snips  , will make quick work of that , have a similar stove / hood / microwave vent , that you want to make unfriendly , especially to a squirrel , they can really cover ground on a attic / ceiling area  , pete

Spending the day in Buffalo at my son's house. Some traditions are:

Putting up his tree

Replacing the lint sock on the washer.

Clearing the sink drain in the bathroom.

Fixing the recliner ( or replacing)

Lightning of the Christmas pilot in the gas fireplace.

Probably be back in a couple days if the wind shifts enough for snow blowing.
