Snowblower on 2005

I decided to take advantage of the 50°+ day and fit the tall chute blower to the 2005 for the first time. I had this on my 76 last year. So, you'd think plug and play right? Nope. The first thing was the lift tube length. On the 76 I used a shaft collar on the lift flag and the lift amount was just right. I removed the shaft collar and it's still a bit much but I'll live with it. I'm not shortening the tube. Then I go to put on the support arm for the direction crank. Not only was the belt guard in the way but the PTO as well. I was about to get clearance with a conduit bender, Geez! That thing was tough to bend but it's good to go now.

 

Then I try to put the belt on. Nope. Even with the idler out of the action it's still too short. It calls for a 9750 belt (.625 x 69") I'm thinking try a 71" for starters. Anybody else have a blower on a Command equipped tractor?

I use this calculator to get into the ballpark when I’ve been doing “custom” work!

Longest belt run for snowblower is when it is in up position, I think!

 I've never seen that. I suspect the crank support is angled different. Mine is now.  The idler pullies a different diameter? Any idea what the diameters in the adaptor kit? I'll do some research and maybe I can find out. Thanks!!

Correct. If you calc with the idler/tensioner running on a “straight through” belt with the PTO and blower pulleys at their most distant, you’ll add 1 or 1.5 inches to get them to bend the belt. You’ll be surprised at how little extra length it takes.

My “cross check” method is to use a rope in a loop with a tent hitch knot (easy to adjust length). This is trickier because the rope usually falls to the bottom of the sheave making the length artificially short since belts should run flush with, or a bit proud of, the outside diameter of the pulley sheave.

Looks like the big driven pulley is replaced and do not know the diameter.

@Racinbob  every time I see one of those  solid metal mount  pulley set ups ,I  have  gone after every saposed to move area , would not be surprised if the flat idler pulley  , is rough or  not moving as easily as it should , that flat pulley and its v pulley brother . can you re grease the electric pto clutch ? done a lot  of  functional detailing , on  pto driven anything , made sure every  movement stage was free  ,and moved by hand . have also added  a SNOW SLIDER  plastic flat gasket under the chute , add some silicone aerosol , grease the chute movement sprocket area , when I started with mine , it was very neglected / rust bound . also like chain / cable lube on the auger drive set up . finished up with a  mineral oil rub down , snow just slides off , paint looked fresh , just talking .,pete

I had a 70" belt in my stash. I got it on but I didn't like it. I think a 71" would be fine if not a tad tight. But I've also got a slightly smaller driven pulley coming. Between the two I thinking it will be fine. The smaller pulley will mean a fuzz more auger speed. It will be slight though. Also it will make belt removal easier. As is there's not quite enough room between the pulley and blower body. Nothing else needs to be done.

I did the same when I was using a tall chute on my 520H.     The Onan sounded best @ 3200 so the auger was turning close to design speed.

Plus, no need to loosen the jack shaft to replace the belt.

Yet again I made a brain dead move. After deciding I want to replace the driven pulley with one a bit smaller I checked my usual go to, Surplus Center, to see what they had. Not what I was looking for. I mentioned how impressed I was when I purchased the woodruff keys from Zoro so I looked around on their site and found what I wanted. 4.85" OD, 4.6" pitch diameter with a 5L belt, 3/4" bore. Ordered it about 4 pm Monday and it showed up Tuesday. WOW! Went out to try it out and it was a no go. My eyeballs messed with me when I looked at the shaft. It was 7/8", not 3/4". Maybe I should have actually measured it. So I get back on their site and ordered the same thing with the 7/8" bore. I already received the notice that it will arrive today. What service! I debated returning the 3/4" or just putting it in my stash. I saw a button that said 'return item' on their site. Clicked it and entered the order number and it was totally seamless from there. They even immediately sent me a prepaid shipping label. You can't beat that! Yes, this is a shameless shout out to Zoro. Definitely my new go-to site for stuff like this. They post a lot of stuff on Ebay but why go there? Going direct they even give you a 20% discount code.
