Taylor 7 #1 Posted November 24 Hello everyone, I installed a 2 stage snowblower on my 520H hydrostatic transmission this weekend and the only part I couldn’t get on was this lift assist spring. Any idea on how to get it on? The place on where the spring goes seems to be way too big for the spring.
ebinmaine 67,768 #2 Posted November 24 I've saved this video (not my own) The spring gets installed just after 2:00 minutes.
ri702bill 8,387 #3 Posted November 24 (edited) You MAY wish to trim the end to leave a gap a whisker smaller than the rod diameter where you attach it. Hook it over the top of the shaft, not from underneath. Edited November 24 by ri702bill
Taylor 7 #4 Posted November 24 (edited) Thanks for replying ebinmaine but I’m looking at a different lift assist spring under the tractor. I got the one installed at the 2min mark. I actually used the same video when installing the 2 stage blower. Edited November 24 by Taylor

So you have 3 springs? 1 belt and 2 lift assist?
Taylor 7 #6 Posted November 25 @ebinmaine yes, 1 in front like in the video and 2 underneath.

wallfish 17,023 #9 Posted November 25 I use a hydro so it doesn't have that spring nor is it needed. Try connecting the spring to the lift rod first. Then connect the rod to the tractor and the blower The most tension on that spring is when blower is down and the handle is down. That's how it assists with lifting. I'm thinking, connecting the lift rod to the rock shaft on the tractor should be the last thing connected. Seems like there is more opportunity to grab / push / pull / jack / lift things vs pulling directly on the spring. The blower can be jacked up to help with installing and making proper tension adjustment. When you let the blower down all the way is when tension on the spring will be the most. 2
lynnmor 7,322 #10 Posted November 25 Download the manual in the manuals section. I see you holding that large spring that installs on the right front. Lift assist springs should be installed to easy the load on various parts, it ain't all about the operator.

I went back out and took a picture of the one I have on the right front and it looks larger in diameter then the one shown above.

Well, you already stated that the big spring on the right front was installed in a previous post. The spring on the front right is for keeping the housing level because the lift mechanism is on the left side and it does give some lift assist. A hydro has zero problem lifting it and no strain on any parts. I like it heavy and even ob-longed a hole in that plate for it to float more so All of that weight is scraping. It doesn't ride up on hard packed snow. A manual lift will work but that lift assist spring will definitely make some difference for the operator
peter lena 8,656 #14 Posted November 26 @Taylor thanks for the insight , been experimenting with springs and attachment mounting detailing , when dealing with multiple drive / idler pulleys , make sure the pulleys are free and easy moving , its the COLLECTIVE DRAG on pulley set up that starts the entire process of belt issues and lack verifying / improving the entire set up , usually penetrant lubrication as I set things up . those tiny sealed pulley bearings are a good point to change out , and verify the difference . was a good picture tour , pete
