help with briigs govenor spring

i just got a kubota T1460 runs good but was missing the govenor spring when i got it...the motor was a 12hp but was changed over the years to a "briggs&stratton intek 17.5..family#7BSXS.5012VP   277332......another number on it says....071018ZD03720...and there are no other numbers on the motor..was told that there was an id plate above the ohv valve cover but as u can see in pictures thats not my case. so with the pictures and this info can u help me figure out the part number i need for the center sping that hooks to the throttle plate?  "i do-not need the to spring to the carb" was also told that these springs are different on each motor so i have to get right one. pictures i have are below please let me kno if u need any other info to help? thnx

@beachbumtroy, You will need the model, type, & code numbers to look up the correct governor spring in the parts manual. Since those numbers don’t appear on any of the tags, try looking to see if they are stamped into the flat area of the OHV cover. I have seen them in that area before. You might have to degrease that area to be able to read them. For what it’s worth, that 071018… number looks like the Briggs code/serial number for the engine. It indicates the date of manufacture, assembly plant, and sequential serial number. It looks like your engine was built on October 18, 2007. Hope this helps. -JD-

Where the model numbers are located. According to this they are stamped into the metal and most likely in the blower housing.

 the valve cover is also upside down. Should be underneath. On the valve cover.

yes i took off the valve cover and there were numbers on it but unreadable now and turned it right side up again:)...appreciate the info on the 071...number....but dont that mean it shows the engine code and serial number and so on shouldnt that be enough for the 

part info im needing? but like i said thnx for help thus far. bb

@beachbumtroy, unfortunately the model and type numbers for your engine is what is really needed to look up parts for it. The code/serial number only comes into play if there was a mid year change made in some of the parts. Other than that the code number is for build date, assembly plant, & serial number info. All Briggs engines have a code number like that, but it doesn’t give the details specific to the parts and specifications that the model and type numbers do. What you might be down to is trial and error in finding a governor spring that works. -JD-

even thou it never had the spring when i got it, i got 2 more b&s engines that im going to try the govenor springs frm them and see what happens i`ll let u know thnx for all else thou. bb
