Abrasive flap wheel. Install?

Hey guys I have been given a box of these flap wheels.

5.25" x 1.5" with a 1" arbor hole.

I instantly thought great I can put one on my bench grinder. 

Nope!    Not that simple.

The arbor size is different, and it's to wide to fit inside the the guard.

I thought of removing the guard but would like to have it there.

I guess I could make an arbor adapter and a spacer for the guard,and a new tool rest,etc. More time involved then first thought.

 

Does anyone use these, and if so what do you have it on?

4-1/2” angle grinder. They are great for sharpening lawnmower blades

I have used them in place of a buffing wheel to remove rust and shape the edge of items that have encountered the use of a BFH Tool. I use them on a 3/4 HP Baldor polishing machine.

You'll have to bush the bore for your shaft size Remove the guard if it doesn't fit. I have a wire wheel I had to do that with.

I use the flap wheels and wire wheels on my guard free  extended  shaft grinder.   Much easier to work larger parts.

I do use one on my grinder. They are awesome.

These are a bit to big for that though.

I use these flap discs to sharpen blades, but neve a flap wheel.

I use the disc for the angle grinder ALOT.

This box of 10 flap wheels were free so would love to use them.

That extended shaft grinder of yours is a beast. That would make me nervous.

I always seem to have a hood string from my sweatshirt dargling or a loose flap of clothes hanging.

I've had the Baldor for about thirty years, took it in trade for doing some electrical work for a guy who had inherited it and had no use for it. Gotta watch for dangling hoody laces around anything that rotates.

@Ed Kennell, somehow I don't think your extended shaft grinder would pass OSHA inspection, they just don't know what a useful tool looks like.

For sure a big F on the OSHA test.        I do keep my first aid training and supplies updated.
